May I have your attention?

Emry was born a natural learner.  Ethan is so in love with school that he literally can't wait to go every morning.  Lila likes wearing cute clothes and seeing her friends & packing cookies in her lunch, but as far as school work goes, it's a little trying.

I wanted Emry to know how proud we were of all her 100% papers so I put some on the fridge.  I think Lila was feeling a bit left out because a few days ago I came into the kitchen to find about a half dozen papers all stuck on the fridge.  I think one was 100% and the rest were -1 or -2.

Lila was proud and she should be.  She tried her best.

My heart swelled a little as I thought of my girl who struggles.  Who cries over homework.  Who gets frustrated and spends more time doing homework than her siblings.

I see you Lila.  I love you.  I know you are putting forth effort and your dad & I are proud of you.  You're my full time job & I take it very seriously.  You will not fail.

Plus you're so darn cute.  That's gotta count for something.

  2. Lila sounds like me when I was in school. I always had to try extra hard just to get the average grades. You are so in tune with your children!! She is lucky to have you and Glen.

  3. Aw..this is great! I was the same way. My siblings were (and still are) more intellectual and book smart.

Lila will surpass them in other areas!! :)

    Cheers.

  4. I have a feeling my toddler will be like Lila. And of course cuteness counts for something.

  5. I stopped helping my daughter with homework in about the 3rd grade - she always had her notes, lists, etc. My step-son? I couldn't get him to read a book!

    1. Right, Emry goes to her school library every day before and after school to do her homework, her idea. I haven't helped her in years.

  6. That is so precious that she did that! Completely adorable.

  7. Aw, she is a sweetie! And heck, we don't all have to get 100%, 'cause some people love school, and others find their strengths lie in cute clothes (hmm, maybe a future in design or styling?) and cookie eating :) Love that you're there for her to provide support when she's struggling!

  8. Wait one or two wrong is struggling? No way! Lila is awesome. I noticed she spelled apple, "appel." Gwyneth was doing that for awhile too, spelling words ending in "le" with "el." :) I finally told her it's usually going to be "le." :) I think it's great that when we have a few kids we they're different and unique to themselves. I love this as a parent too because it brings different perspectives and learning moments. Love you Marie, and I learn from you as a woman, mother, and friend. I love your post topics. Can't wait for our time together-

    1. In my book it is struggling. We go over and over these words and math problems and other lessons. We also, as you know, read a TON, so she should be doing better. But as long as she is developing good habits and trying her best I am happy.

  9. Tell Lila that her aunt Margo also struggled and watched her younger sister Jeannette fly through school with flying colors. In the end we all have our paths in life we take and I like who I am today. Lila you have a big imagination, a zest for life, a love for animals witch in my book automatically makes you unique and special (: not to say you are adorable and beautiful. You are UNIQUE and we only have one Lila and we love her!!! We are so proud of you and we are also proud of Emry for doing so well in school and being such an awsome big sister!!!!! xoxoxoxox your way girls!!! Your aunt Margo loves you!

    1. I am just accidentally leaving out the part where sometimes I yell and wonder why she just doesn't get it. Then I take a deep breath, give her a hug and tell her it's hard to remember 2nd grade, that was almost 30 years ago for me!

  11. Haha, aw, what a sweet girl. That is the cutest thing that she put her own papers up on the fridge. I'm glad she tries so hard. I'm sure it will get better and her cuteness definitely is worth something! BTW, thanks for your advice about the sleep situation. I kind of wish my husband were like Glenn and encouraged us to let her cry it out, but I have to be the stronger one since he just refuses to. I think I'll give it a try, at least for one night!

    1. It takes more than one night (unfortunately) it took us between 3-5, and it is so painful, but then lo & behold you have a baby that sleeps through the night and wakes up happy. No matter what time they woke up, 5, 6, or 7, I ran to get them to let them know I WOULD get them AFTER they slept.

  12. She is adorable. And -1 or -2 is pretty fantastic!

  13. She is cute and she knows how to stand up for herself in a cute way - she put her own papers up on your fridge!! So cute. :)
When my boy grows up, I want him to be happy and a good person, to try his best and do something he enjoys. Because that is what life is all about. And I think this doesn't necessarily have a lot to do with school (which is, of course, very important).

    1. Couldn't agree more! Lila was just in her school's talent show tonight and did so well. There is so much more to life than memorizing dates in a book.

  14. My nieces and nephew grow though this. She is defiantly cute. -1 & -2 isn't bad at all (as you know!) but I understand why she may feel left out.

  15. Oh goodness...I just want to give her a hug! What a cutie! And that's pretty funny that she stuck her papers up on the fridge too. ;o) What a personality she has!

  17. Oh, she's adorable! The picture of the fridge made me laugh-what a sweet little girl!

  18. Aw, she is so sweet and will excel at her very own thing one day. I think finiding each of their little personalities is one of the best parts of having more than one child. Love this post.

  19. Awww.. things children do to take our attention. Beautiful post Marie.

Lila will excel at everything that she does since she has such a supportive mum.

  20. She will be able to do whatever she wants because you are right there lifting her up and supporting her! You are terrific mom.

  21. Wow, your kids are so lucky to have such supportive parents. My mum's a teacher and she says that the main reason that children fail is when they're not getting the help and support that they need at home, or when their parents' just don't believe in them. Good luck to her, I'm sure she will do great!

    1. Couldn't agree more. Parents have so much influence over how kids do in school, teacher's can only do so much.

  22. How sweet is that? I can only imagine how much effort she puts into her work.

I think what speaks volumes is the boldness - she saw a space she wanted to occupy and made it happen for herself. This is going to carry her so far in life!

  23. Marie, love this. You are such a great mom....... your kids are blessed.

  24. It is good to know that even if she struggles with work she still has a strong self esteem to show off her work. She is such a beautiful child and such a blessing for you and Glenn.

Thanks for sharing this mom moment Marie :)

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
