Play Ball

Ethan first played T-ball when he was 5, sometimes he took to taking naps in the outfield.  We waited  2 years and now that he's older and wiser at 7, he's playing ball once more.  It started out slow but all the kids on his team are getting better & better every game.

I wasn't too keen on baseball growing up because between all my brothers and my dad there was a baseball, football, or basketball game on at any given time and that meant no Brady Bunch for me.

But now that I get to watch Ethan I love it!!!  If the girls don't have play practice they come to the games, along with Glenn, my dad & Brutus.  Brutus wouldn't miss it!

Ethan's team 'The Padres'.  Ethan is bottom left.

After watching Ethan play in the morning we decided we needed to take him to a real game.  It was 'Little League' night at the 'Storm' game (The Storms feed into the San Diego Padres) so off we went.

All the Little League players got to parade around the field before the game began.  Ethan's waving to all of his fans.

This went on for about 10 minutes, there were hundreds of little ballplayers there, it was really fun to see Ethan out on the field.

Lila, Emry and Emry's friend Lauren.  They mostly enjoyed getting food & running back and forth to the grass area (above).  One of the highlights of the game was when a batter cracked his bat in half, they thought that was very cool.  Oh and the best part I almost forgot was when a gorilla came out and danced to LMFAO's 'I am sexy and I know it' and ripped off his overalls and proceeded to dance in underwear.  I couldn't make this stuff up.  All the kids were dying they loved it so much.

The gang.  (top row) Glenn, Lila, Emry (bottom row) Ethan, me, mom ,dad (not pictured) my nephew Nathan and the photographer Lauren

I spy Emry, Lauren & Lila at the top of the hill.  Kids were running up and down this hill all night.

I am erasing from my mind how much money was spent on food, just not even gonna think about it.

Such a fun night.  As much as I don't like televised sports I LOVE being there in person to take in all the action and energy.  The Storms won 4-1, with a few balls being hit out of the park.

Hopefully Ethan got a few pointers :)

  3. What fun! I agree, live games are awesome, watching on TV not.

  5. I think it's so sweet that Ethan wore his jersey! I remember how cool it was to see a "real" team when I was little and they played the same sport that I did. It looks like y'all had a wonderful night.

p.s. I'm sure it's very special to him that the entire family is able to make it to his games when they're able. That's the kind of thing that stays with you forever.

    1. I agree. If your family doesn't support you who will? The girls usually are running off to the park but at least they're there.

  6. Never think about how much food you spend at an event. It's ridiculous.

I wish you had video of the gorilla.

    1. We're on the twice a week schedule, but even that is busy. I am sure as he gets older there will be more practice, good, he needs it! I love watching him though.

  8. I'm with ya--live sports events are fun, what with the crowds, the (overpriced) food and the excitement. But on TV? Eh, I'll pass. Cute that they do a little league night! And I miss the days where I could fall asleep on a sports field and it was a-okay...

  9. Ooooh this looks like so much fun! Especially being on the hill! When I lived in Memphis, the Redbirds (minor league team) played in a stadium where you could pay $5 and sit on the hill to watch the game. That was always my favorite way to enjoy it. :o) I'm like you - I'd much rather see a game in person than watch it on TV.

So what is it about that LMFAO song?!? Lexie and her friends just go crazy over it, too! I'm sure my parents thought the same thing about the music I listened to though. ;o)

    1. Yes the songs these days?! They are completely catchy, and completely inappropriate!! You cannot get away from it.

  10. What a special way for Ethan (and all of you) to celebrate the fun in the all American game of baseball! We have a team that is only 10 mins from our house, The Bowie Baysox, that feed into the majors. It looks like the same set up and they offer so many amazing theme nights that are fun for all of us. Looks like a great time! Missed you while I was not feeling well and couldn't get online to be in touch. Happy to see you all smiling!

    1. Thanks. Baseball games are something I never think to do and then when I go I think "this is so fun I want to do this all the time". They make it so fun for the kids.

  11. Those minor league ball games are the best! They really know how to make it fun for families, and you showed that very well here. But ouch on the food costs!

    Memories though, great memories!

  13. I love everything about baseball - watching it and seeing it live. Hannah played softball up until high school - the high school coach ended up being a biotch, so she quit and never looked back.

Love seeing the barefeet eating pizza. I am so happy you will make pickles - they are so easy I am kicking myself for paying so much for them in the store. :D

    1. They're cheap too! I am on it. My kids unfortunately repel shoes, so many times I make them wash their feet before going upstairs. Serves me right, I spent my whole childhood barefoot.
