Favorite Things 1/13

I saw These Boots & it was love at first sight.  I've never believed in love at first sight.  I was a big, fat pessimist on that one. But rest assured I am now a believer.  I am ridiculously obsessed with them.  I tried to walk away, but thank goodness Glenn was there to do what he does best..... talk some sense into me.  I am on a quest to wear them every day until summer.  Even then I am not sure I'll be able to wrench them off my feet.

This little froth machine is also a new find.  In case you didn't know I love hot chocolate.  Drink it every day, sometimes twice a day and have passed along the delightful habit to my kids.  We have right now I think 5 different brands of  hot chocolate in our cupboard, we're all very particular on what we like :)

Sometimes I mix it up and have Pero instead.  I don't drink coffee for religious and health reasons but I love everything about the ritual.  The fancy mugs, the flavorings, the warmth it provides and especially the steamed and frothed milk.  I've seen a few different models and even owned a few.  This one on sale at Costco though I couldn't pass up.  It steams and froths perfectly.

You wouldn't know it from my love for expensive boots and my insistance that a frothing machine is a necessity, but most of the time I am downright practical, sometimes too much so.  Take for instance the half bath downstairs.  For years it had a plain, boring, cheap, brown rug. Over time it got completely worn out.

One day I had an epiphany that I should just go ahead and buy a new rug (duh!).  I knew this time around I wanted something colorful and when I saw this blue flower shaped one at Marshalls I was thrilled.  I am by no means a decorator, I never even sample paint colors on the wall.  I am very much a go with my gut person and I never try and make things match or go with a theme, I just like what I like. And I like this rug a lot!

What a surprise, another Costco find.  I picked these up thinking they would be mostly chocolate with  some nuts, but it's mostly nuts covered in creamy delicious milk chocolate.  Exactly what I was hoping for as it seems healthier that way :)  One or two of these is the perfect way to end lunch.

I wasn't a fan at all of the Kirkland brand boxed chocolate set, but every other chocolate confection from their salted macadamia caramel clusters, to their dark chocolate cherry clusters are fantastic.  I bought 2 more bags of these cashew clusters for my freezer.  Just in case.

A few weeks ago Glenn & I played a version of the Newlywed game with friends.  One of the questions was "What is one thing your wife has too many of?"  Glenn answered 'nothing' because I don't keep "stuff" (we got it right), knick knacks are not for me.  But I forgot about one thing my husband isn't aware of because he never opens the lower kitchen cabinets.  My stash of hand towels.

I love hand towels.  Upon entering a thrift store I head straight to the back to the linen section.  The older the better.  But sometimes, like these, I buy new.  The 2 white ones are from Marshall's.  I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and why would I buy something as silly as clothes when I could buy hand towels.  The other 2 are from Sur La Table, they were on clearance.  If charming, unique linens were the only gift I got for the rest of my life I would be happy.

I really would.

    1. So does Pero taste anything like coffee? I always add a little flavored creamer to my coffee so would adding that to Pero taste OK?

    2. It's similar to coffee, it's all natural but not at all bitter. Creamer would go great with Pero. I add some milk and brown sugar to my Pero.

  5. The boots are super cool, but I am completely jealous over your towels. I love perusing them but rarely buy them because I can't pay full price. Our thrift stores here suck, so I can't come across some of the cool finds you dazzle us with.

Oh speaking of that surely it is time for a post of some of your thrift store finds. I am always so inspired by the stuff you pick up so cheap.

  6. First, love the boots, really cute. I've been looking for some boots, (not tall boots) for my growing collection of skinny jeans. I remember seeing girls wearing skinny jeans around six years ago in magazines thinking, "I would never wear those." And now I love them!! I put on a pair of my boot cut jeans the other day and they looked weird to me.

Second, I love Pero. I have it all the time now. Mostly for breakfast, but it's been so cold lately I don't mind helping myself to a cup in the am, pm and again in the pm, ya know? I make mine with half milk, half water and top it with vanilla almond milk and honey. It's so good, thanks to you. I'm looking forward to throwing it over ice in the summer time.

Third, the cashew clusters are bomb, been buying them for awhile now. I agree, the perfect sweet for after lunch to get that fix.

Fourth, I brought this awesome frother home from my mom's after she died, it was my brothers and he didn't want it anymore. It looked like an immersion blender but tiny and it sat so cute on my counter....it just broke. :( Maybe I'll look into this one.

Fifth, so you're saying all you want from me from now on are vintage, used linen hand towels. Done. Because I know you were talking to me speciifically when you said, "you really would." Ahahhahahaha. Love you, cute post.

    1. Yes with these boots all I wear is leggings/ jeggings whatever, it's fine by me because they feel like sweats and we all know Marie Wallwork is all about lazy comfort :) Every outfit I wear must now revolve around the boots, that's just the way it's got to be.

And pray tell if you knew about these clusters why no shout out to me hmmmm? You probably thought I would hoard them all. Correct assumption.

  7. Have you tried Costco's new Kirkland Signature chocolate chips? I really like them.

    Those boots are gorgeous.

    1. I haven't! I've had a stash of Nestle in my freezer but they are almost gone. I will try the Kirkland brand because I have always been (mostly) happy with their products. And if you like em that's good enough for me!

    2. Marie, the chocolate chips that Kirkland is putting out (those she mentions above, are the bomb too) I've been buying them now for a few months, they started carrying them just before Christmas. I think you'd like them because the quality in taste is better then that of others I've had. I love Costco.

  8. Those boots are awesome! Have you thought about making your pictures large when you add them to your post? Just a thought and not a criticism :)

  9. My husband is the same way and would try to get me to buy the boots.

I, too, love linen towels but in the kitchen.

Having nuts and/or chocolate, other than dark chocolate, would put back every pound I took off! I have no self-control!

Bless you, Marie! You have brought joy to me.

  10. You have a froth machine. Woaa! Now I know what I want for my birthday :P It's amazing how much money you can save making drinks at home instead of buying them.

Love the boots. Something tells me that they fit your personality perfectly.

  11. Awesome rug. I was going to say I like the boots, but then I saw the rug. My love for the rug has edged out my comments on any other part of the post. Even the frother for your hot chocolate.

  12. I love Sur La Table - wish my pocketbook could afford more of the stuff in there, but their discount racks are pretty sweet!

  14. I love the boots but of course I couldn't carry them off like you do, I'm sure! And the cashew chocolate...love.

Sur La Table is great but a bit expensive! I don't shop there too much.

  15. Aww, your favorite things make me happy! (Okay, a little jealous when it comes to those fabulous boots!) Hand towels! I adore that rooster one.

  16. I love those boots, Glenn is a good man to make you get them. You reminded me that I have a Marshall's gift card buring a hole in my pocket.
