Amazing Youth

I work with the youth in our church, specifically the Young Women.  Last night my friend Theresa & I were in charge of putting on a combined Young Men/Young Women activity. We planned an Amazing Race theme which included: Hula Hoop race, pizza dough toss, ice stacking, eating disgusting food, finding safety pins in a huge bowl of rice while blindfolded, jigsaw puzzle, scripture fill-in and a fitness test.

There were 6 teams with about 7 youth per team.  They ran around the building looking for the next country and challenge.

This challenge had some of the kids almost hurling.  If you ate the pig's feet you got to move on right away.  The sardines, wait 3 minutes, and the beets wait 5 minutes. I told Theresa I did not support the kids eating disgusting pig's feet, but she would have none of it, so pig's feet it was.

One of the boys reluctantly ate the sardines and then asked for more!

I am not sure why this challenge is under Mexico as we all know Mexican Food is the BEST!!!!!

Here is Emry and one of her teammates Devin eating the pigs feet. I almost couldn't watch. I think they're breaking into a cold sweat right about the time I snapped this.

Here are about half the teams.  My camera really tried to keep up with them but those young'uns are fast!

It's really a privilege to be around all these kids.  They're fun, smart and are really trying to do what's right.  I am thankful to belong to a church that puts such an emphasis on teaching these youth correct principals and giving them lots of opportunities for growth & FUN!

These kids got it going on!

  2. Hey, who is that girl on one knee with the thumbs up? Seriously, there is a girl in our stake that is her twin. It can't possibly be her can it? The girl I'm thinking of is Melissa Davies. You know that family right?

Anyhow, this is a great activity. Kalen comes home with all the details of all they've done. They come up with awesome stuff, like you two. Kirk and Kalen went to the Temple tonight for youth baptisms. So a bunch of youth went. They got home a little while ago. Our kids are getting big Marie. It's crazy.

Love the Justin Beiber look alike in the bottom right hand corner. Awesome. Did I spell Beiber correctly? No matter. :)

Love you Marie. I think it's great that you get to be in YW with Emry and Kiley (sorry if I didn't spell her name correctly either.)

Alright, lots of love to you and counting down days till you're here.

    1. Her name is Audrey Crookshank and she is awesome. Kathy has 5 kids and home schools them all, Devin (eating the pigs feet w/ Emry) is a Crookshank too. It is said that everyone has a doppelganger, so I guess Audrey is Melissa, and no I don't remember them.

I love working with the youth, tiring, but fun!

  3. What a fun activity!! Major kudos to Emry for eating the pigs feet. I think I would have had to admit defeat if asked to ingest such a thing.

  9. Wow. You guys are good. This looks like so much fun that I wanna participate, too! Except for the sardines and pigs feet part. I'd have chosen the beets, easy.

How many of those kids actually swallowed the pigs feet?

  10. Oh my gosh, I love that you do this with your kids' youth group! The race was so creative...I would never in a million years consider pigs feet and sardines. Those kids are brave! Happy Mother's Day to you Marie. Hope you get pampered on your special day. XOXO.
