Rolling in the Dough
I always knew that someday I would teach my kids how to make bread. All children deserve the right to have the aroma that only bread baking in the oven can bring burned into their psyche. After church on Sunday I wanted to make rolls for our Mothers Day dinner, and then immediately thought, "Marie, get Emry in here, she can do this".
I gave her the recipe and just stepped back while I walked her through each step. We talked about water temperature, proofing, what dough should feel like, how to love it (not really, didn't want to scare her, her first time out) rising time and finally how to shape those babies.
They turned out perfect.
Kind of like the girl herself.

ReplyDeleteIt's important to pass on our knowledge. Wish my kids had an interest when they were younger!

I new a post like this was coming! I love these rolls and Emry looks like you striving away in the kitchen. That comment about "loving the dough" cracked me up. I love this recipe. I took it to a gathering a few weeks ago and they were a hit, I've got all of my friends making them. Except, there is no whole wheat? Have you ever tried it with? You probably have other rolls that are whole wheat. Love you and talk soon,

I have tried them with whole wheat (50% white/ 50% ww) and they turned out better tasting in my opinion. I'll get Emry use to this recipe first and then branch into others.
DeletePretty good for a first-timer!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to bake three loaves of bread weekly. We'd eat two and the third one would go to someone else - either a neighbor or a friend from church, or just someone who needed a little pick-me-up. You just reminded me of one of my favorite memories. :o)
I always want to make my own bread, such a lovely gift you are giving your daughter.
ReplyDeleteMy kids will definitely know the feel and smell of fresh baked bread! Yay for teaching her!
ReplyDeleteThey really are perfect! Can u share the recipe??
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed! These are absolutely perfect. Good for Emry!
ReplyDeleteI wish someone could teach me how to make bread. I am hopeless when it comes to yeast.
Hope you had a fantastic weekend Marie.
I'm impressed! They look amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThose look so very delicious. If Emry ever needs a trip East and wants to make some rolls at my house I will gladly supply whatever she needs to make that happen.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I can almost taste the deliciousness :)
Gorgeous! I can just smell them baking! Can you come teach me how to bake? And I then I can teach MY mom, haha, we're both baking-incompetent.
