Control Freak

It's October!  That means even though it's still in the 90's I can make as many pumpkin recipes as my family will eat.  I actually add it to my oatmeal year round and never get sick of it, but I've heard that some people do, weird.  So I made this pumpkin bread yesterday and it's pretty dang good.

Why oh why can't I get my pictures to turn out like THIS?  Oh yeah, because I had 3 'helpers' in the kitchen who could barely let me take one picture let alone spend any time trying to make it look nice.  Oh well, like I said it was very tasty.

When I saw my husband cutting into the bread I had to show him the right way to cut warm bread.  Use a sharp serrated knife and cut back and forth very slowly as not to mush the bread.  I think he appreciated the tutorial.

It got me thinking how often I have to 'help' people with the food I make.

I brought some orange rolls to a baby shower last week and when I saw someone cutting them the incorrect way, I had to go over and cut them all myself so my beautiful rolls wouldn't be all smooshed.

Back in December at a Christmas craft party I brought Cranberry Cake.  I was working on my craft when I turned around and noticed everyone had dished up dessert.  When I realized that people had taken my cake and not topped it with the sauce, well you can imagine I almost had a heart attack.  But of course I couldn't because I had to run over, grab the sauce, and go around and let everyone know that they couldn't eat the cake without the sauce, it simply couldn't be done.

If  you're eating dinner at my house and want to heap too much food onto one plate, think again.  (This mainly applies to Glenn and his friends).  If your hot food is all over my beautiful salad it will wilt.  If two opposite flavor combinations are going to get all mixed together it just won't do.  I will be happy to get you a salad plate, another plate or dish up the food myself.  I love to be helpful!

And don't think you're just going to put lettuce in your bowl and pour dressing on top.  A salad needs to be properly tossed in a large bowl so each and every leaf is dressed (but not overdressed, huge pet peeve).

And I might just have to watch over you when we eat curry or another dish that has multiple toppings so I can make sure you know that they actually do go together.

And if I am fixing you breakfast at my house, don't take a cold waffle, wait for a hot one.   I will make you wait.  Your memories of breakfast at my house cannot be marred with cold waffles.

You would love dinner at my house (if you like soup and 3 louder than loud kids who will treat you like a human jungle gym).  I try and serve my guests delicious and healthy food.

But be prepared...... you might get yelled at.

  1. Mmm...can I come over? I'm very similar! I tote agree on the salad tossing. It's all about taking the time to toss. And not too early. And for sure not too much.

That cake looks amazing. Anything with pumpkin works for me!

  2. I love it!! But honestly if your name is tied to food, that by the way you spent time and energy making you want people to dish/serve it up properly so it looks/tastes how it is supposed to. Right? Wow, this is reminding me of how I will spend time folding the laundry and the next thing I know it is worn half a day and lays in a crumpled heap. I think I have some control issues too. Ha ha.

  3. Marie, I love it. On the phone the other day when you said you were "type A" I thought, no she isn't? But, I guess you are, and we are all better for it, because I know I don't want to be eating any cold waffles, or wilted salad and I definitely don't want to be eating that cranberry cake without the sauce. Which by the way bloggers, wherever you are, that cranberry cake is the bomb. Love you, Shauna

  4. I have trouble with photos too! I think I just need a better camera, but the one I have is so easy to carry around. Anyway, regardless, the bread looks delicious! I'm like you are. I need to show people how to do things the "right" way. I LOVE soup and I would be glad to come over for dinner, whether you correct me or not!! ;-)

  5. I would love to come over...is this a formal invitation??

I'm with you on the salad - it must be properly tossed. I do not like overdressed salads so I'm really particular on this one.

My husband cuts right into freshly baked things every time. He never learns!
