Date Night

Last night Glenn & I did something we rarely do.  We went out on a date.  Not just watching a movie at home, but actually getting in the car and driving somewhere.

The kids stayed with my parents who live just up the street from us and Glenn and I drove to San Diego to attend a Temple Session.  In our religion the Temple is extremely Holy &  Spiritual and we are encouraged to attend often to strengthen our faith.

Glenn & I together, separately (make sense?).  He has to check his phone one last time and tell her he'll miss her for the next 2 hours.  Of course it's a her, I call it his girlfriend he loves it so much.

The San Diego temple at night, so beautiful.

Next up, dinner.  There is a whole foods close to the Temple so that is where we always go being that there is no Whole Foods in Temecula.  I have to get my salad bar fix.

I ended up getting a small salad and a small side of some Indian spiced tofu and vegetables.  Both were delicious.  My salad had pea sprouts, baby spinach, marinated beets & carrots, marinated cucumbers, pressed tofu, bleu cheese, red quinoa, a scoop of finely chopped vegetables topped with a fig balsamic vinaigrette.  I make great salads at home but the options here were a dream!  So delicious.

Sometimes when the kids have earned a reward I'll let them all curl up in my bed and we all watch 'Cupcake Wars'.  We love that show.  When I make cupcakes or muffins Lila has to cut it in half, have me sit down next to her, describe the baked good, then she tastes and rates it (just like on the show).

So when I saw that a Sprinkles had opened right by Whole Foods, I told Glenn we had to go and get some for the kids.

Here is the box filled with 3 cupcakes.  They were $3.50 apiece, yikes!  I chose chocolate marshmallow, lemon coconut and the flavor of the month caramel apple.  The kids, especially Lila, were so excited to see this box and taste all the cupcakes.  As soon as we got to my mom's and opened them up we ate them all so fast that those beautiful cupcakes escaped my camera.  The lemon coconut was my favorite.

Just wanted to give a shout out to my dress.  I got this on Ebay a few years ago and it is one of my favorites.

I love the diamond stitching, the pop of color in the flowers, the sleeves and the fact that it's so soft and comfortable.  Comfort is always a huge factor for me.  That's why I also wore no makeup.  It might sound ridiculous but not having to wash my face at the end of the night is worth it to me.

So that was our night.  Wow I included everything in this post, religion, food, fashion and family.  Now it's Saturday and it's gorgeous so we're off to the beach.

  1. Wow, Marie, what a beautiful building the Temple is! There aren't any temples around here that I know of. I've passed a really big one near Washington, DC. I was disappointed when we drove through Salt Lake City a few years ago that the highway we were driving on didn't give us a view of the Tabernacle. I would love to have seen it.

Your dress is so cute. Knowing you it was a real bargain, too! You look comfortable. I know what you mean about the makeup. I like it because I think I look better, but I HATE having to take it off at night. I like your idea. Enjoy your weekend!!

  2. It definitely isn't a conventional "date" but I love that that's what you guys do! Plus any night with cupcakes has to be a good one. I'm glad you got some quality time in. Keeping a strong marriage is so important, especially when you have a family together. And you look gorgeous in your dress. I always love a good deal!

  8. Oooooh date nights. Few and far between, but so wonderful when they do come around. I LOVED your date. I like doing random, fun things we never get a chance to do. It keeps things interesting. Much better than the old dinner & movie thing.

    That salad looked amazing.

    Cheers.
