Cupcake Wars
I rarely make cupcakes. I know, weird. I am much more a cookie person. Cake will always be my last choice. Cobblers, crisps, pie & ice cream will always get first dibs. The fun thing about cupcakes though is they are just so darn cute.
I had about 30 people here on Saturday night for dinner. It was actually my sister who was hosting after her son's baptism, but since I have the biggest house she asked to have it here.
I woke up at 5am Saturday morning to start cleaning and baking because I had to attend a Scouting function at 8 am. Ethan is not old enough to be in Scouts but since I serve in Primary in our church sometimes I have to attend Scouting events.
I left the remainder of the cleaning in the capable hands of my children. Teaching kids to clean is time consuming, frustrating and tiring, but as they get older it is so paying off. I came home to an immaculate house and cupcakes that needed frosting.
These are not just any cupcakes. They are S'mores Cupcakes from Annie's Eats and for a non-cupcake eater like myself, I have to say they were AWESOME!
They have a graham cracker crust on the bottom layered with melted unsweetened chocolate topped with a rich milk chocolate cake batter ending up with a roasted marshmallow cloud.
I realize that sometimes these descriptions sound way better than the actual treat. Not these cupcakes. These pictures don't even do them justice.
My sister told me she was bringing another dessert. She didn't. On her behalf she is a single mom working full time and packing up her house to move this weekend.
So that left us with 30 people and 24 cupcakes. There might have been some pushing and pleading involved to see who had to share.
These kids love and appreciate yummy food. These kids scrubbed toilets, mowed lawns and wiped down cupboards all morning. These kids have learned from their momma to pounce when dessert is served.
These kids got their own cupcakes.

Yes, those look divine. And I believe you about being out of this world, c'mon you made them.
ReplyDeleteThe kids loved this picture. Very cute. Thanks for sending us a Valentine, we love you guys so much. That's an understatement by the way.
I love the first picture-great job with the camera. Love, love, love you-
Shauna
Thanks Shauna my love. I am sure you'll make them soon, you're kids will love them.
DeleteThese look beautiful and delicious. Yum! I will always choose ice cream over cupcakes but this is making me reconsider!
ReplyDeleteYour kids are awesome... nice tip about teaching them to clean early and then reaping the rewards as they get older. :)
Ice cream rules here too, but it's nice to branch out.
DeleteI love cookies the best, but I like cupcakes too. They are already portion controlled and with a big family, they don't last for long. Those look amazing. Good for you on taking the time to teach your kids life skills that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteAs I am sure you know it's much more work for us at first, but it definitely pays off.
DeleteI'm not a cupcake gal either but these sound delicious. That is wonderful that your kids help you clean, they totally deserved the cupcakes.
ReplyDeleteThey thought so!
DeleteThose look AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, those sound delicious!!! And I agree about the cleaning. Slowly, but surely my girls {well, the two older ones} are getting the hang of it. Help . . . glorious help!
ReplyDeleteYes it's all paying off now and I love it. To see chores done (that I didn't do) is pretty much a dream.
DeleteThat is incredible;e that your kids pulled the house together. You taught 'em well, Marie!
ReplyDeleteYeah, all that screaming paid off.
DeleteThose cupcakes look amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maryanne!
DeleteThose cupcakes are so freaking cute! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteMmm those look so good, I love s'more anything!! Have you tried the s'more cookies that are made with graham cracker crumbs/flour? Delish!! And way to go with your kids, that is AWESOME they were able to clean up the house while you were gone!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't but I have a recipe for smore's cookies that has been ignored for a few years. I'll have to try it.
DeleteVery cute, and they looks just delicious! I really cupcakes, but I'd have to agree that I'm more of an all around cookie person...Chocolate Chip! :)
ReplyDeleteSpecifically cookies with ice cream or frozen yogurt!
DeleteWhat good little helpers! My son is just now getting intersted in helping (often taking the clean clothes out the basket and putting them in his dirty clothes hamper..but hey, he is trying!), I love it! Such sweet babies you have! Glad they got their cupcakes ;)
ReplyDeleteAt first it's frustrating having 'helpers', but there is a definite payoff for being patient.
DeletelOOK DELICIOUS... SO YUMIIIIIII =)

Oh my gosh, they look good, and those kids deserved every little crumb! I hope you had one too since you did all the work!
ReplyDeleteYes I did! I am definitely making them again.
DeleteOkay, I NEED one of those. Yum!
ReplyDeleteWow!! These looks... I want one!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are an excellent sister, an excellent mom and you have such sweet kids!
We were both on a sugar high today, haha, great minds think alike.
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteI looked at the recipe and I wonder if using "Fluff" would suffice for the marshmallow?
ReplyDeleteI am sure you could use that but I loved these with the egg white meringue.
Deletewow those look amazingly perfect!!! yum.
ReplyDeleteThey came out so cute...and I'm sure they were delish!
ReplyDeleteThese look heavenly. I have to buy myself a blow -torch. is that how you got your golden hue on top ( i am sure). Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYes. My sister gave me a little one from Williams Sonoma about 13 years ago for my birthday. The kids of course all wanted to take turns with it.
DeleteOh my these are great!
ReplyDeleteI would have been throwing elbows to ensure I had my own cupcake.
ReplyDeleteUm, pretty sure those cupcakes are insulin worthy!! I am with you, when I watch Cupcake Wars on Food Network I want to say "if it was pie wars I'd love it!"
ReplyDeleteYour kids are so helpful - love it!
Mmmmm, pie, so good. My girls love cupcake wars. When Lila eats a cupcake she cuts it in half and while eating with a fork critique's the taste, texture, flavor combination and presentation. She's a fun one.
DeleteThose cupcakes look sooooo good. I love cupcakes, and cake, but don't know how to make either, really. Which means I wait until someone bakes for me, which isn't often enough.
ReplyDeleteUh, yeah, I wish you were my mom. Or neighbor, since that's not mathematically possible.
ReplyDeleteice cream and cupcakes are always my first pics. and these cupcakes look delicious!!!

I think the description sounds fantastic and I can almost imagine how good they tasted.
ReplyDeletePat on the back to you for teaching the kids to clean and a pat on their backs for doing such a wonderful job.
A real world skill that they will need later and appreciate you for.
That's what I always tell them! They are so lucky to work for me.
DeleteI am way more of a cookie person than a cake person but I do appreciate how pretty cupcakes look! And these are no exception.
ReplyDeleteYou adults were selfless. :) My husband would have grabbed a couple just for himself. He's generous that way.
Oh Ali, yes I am sure he would be right there with the kids. So funny.
DeleteWow. Thirty people! You are one brave woman!
ReplyDeleteI am used to having big dinner parties. I grew up in a family of 11 so it's not a big stretch.
DeleteThese look so yummy!!!!!..... oh, and the kids are very cute too! :)
ReplyDeleteWhy do your food posts have to look sooo gooood?! :)
