Interesting. No P.

The other day I was reading a home/food blog and the post had about a dozen dream bedrooms from Pinterest.  They were lovely and dreamy and made me want to take a nap even though I had just eaten breakfast.

At first I thought 'Oh I should paint the walls and the bed frame and search for new bedding and ..................and then I stopped myself from going down a very dangerous path.  I love my bed.  And my bedroom.  We have the comfiest mattress and I love the checked quilt from my Grandma's house and the yellow duvet I scored thrifting for $2.  And why my computer doesn't acknowledge thrifting as a word is beyond me.

Our bed did have another rail, but it broke because it was our favorite place to sit and floss our teeth.

And yes we have a lovely stairmaster in the left hand corner.  Funny, none of the dream bedrooms had one.  And that glass of water, it's from the bathroom sink.  See, I can go up & down fake stairs for 35 minutes, but go down 15 real stairs to get good water from the fridge, too much effort.

And then there's the misplaced LaZboy.  It was in the nursery but got shoved out to make room for all of Ethan's Lego's.    My feelings are still hurt that he'd rather play than be rocked to sleep.

So there's my bedroom.  It's not posh or fancy.  No one is ever going to pin it.  But I love it.

  1. I love it! I think you have a very fresh look going on. And the misplaced laZboy is a nice addition. We used to have the comfiest mattress, but we gave it away because of my husband's back problems. Oh, how I miss it!

    1. You could get one of those side by side adjustable mattress'. I thought those were for old people, which I guess is us.

  2. I always love "dream" bedrooms, but they always have minimal items in them. My bedroom is packed full of stuff and will never look like these rooms! I really like your bed frame! I have never owned anything like that :/

    1. I prefer the lived in look as well. Reading glasses, books, water, a hair tie or two. A home is meant to make things easier for you.

  3. Seeing as I've slept in that bed, only with you, I might add, it is really comfy. I love the way Glenn did the posts and the rail breaking is hilarious. I love your bedroom too. I really like the side table and great duvet for $2.00.

I wonder how long that stair master is going to hold out. It's the same one from the apt. back in the day right?

Cute post. Now if you ever forget what your room looked like at this point in time-you'll have a record. Blogging is the best! :)

    Love,

  4. And that is all that matters...that YOU love it. :) It is so easy to get suckered into all the "Dream looks" on pinterest and similar websites. Love your perspective.

When my sister and I were little (elementary school) we would hold onto my parents bed rails and spin around as fast as we could (in the air!). Let's just say we broke a few in the process :).

  5. I got hooked on the Houzz website before Pinterest. I wasn't as disciplined as you and we ended up getting a new "look" for our bedroom. We did it on a budget, but I still feel a little guilty. I love this post Marie!

  6. I don't love mine. It is huge, but dark. I have old hand-me-down furniture that is very much not my style and keeps me from redecorating because I am cheap and it is very serviceable. Sigh.

    1. You should paint it, it's amazing how paint can transform furniture. Or try and sell it on Craigslist and use the money to buy something else.

  7. We have about 10 bottles of water in our room (no lie)!!

  8. It only matters that you and Glenn are comfortable there. I should show you a photo of my bedroom...oh the horrors...Then you would believe that you have a dream bedroom. I really like the new header, etc on the blog. Cool! I need to change things, too, but just haven't...I'll get to it...isn't that what I always say?! ;-)

  9. I'm convinved that no one actually lives in those Pinterest homes. I mean, I love the look of an all-white room with white bedding and lots of pretty breakables, but I would never in a million years want to live in it! I would be terrified of sullying it's beauty!

Now your bedroom? That's one you can live in. :o) And you should be proud! It's pretty and sentimental!

  10. I really, really need to do something about my bedroom. It's definitely one of the rooms that has been neglected since we moved in. Shouldn't your bedroom be the most comfy and favorite room of the house? I'm moving this to the top of my interior design priority list. :)

  12. Too funny! I'm always on pinterst looking at all these lovely room and houses and I think who lives here. Let's face it if we all pinned what our rooms looked like, most of them would look like yours. Except my bed would have a sleeping dog on it and a pile of laundry.

  13. ah, ha! i found the culprit who encourages gratefulness and non-spending.

what am i going to do with you now? feed you to the monsters under my bed??

thank you for this post. it's lovely! and such a good reminder to not get "swept up" in it all. and i concur that thrifting is totally a word...and that my computer doesn't agree either.

maybe the monsters under my bed need a computer.

    1. You & me both. Although with a flat screen and a fan my bedroom is an awesome workout area.

  16. Trust me when I tell you nobody would pin my bedroom either. Where you have your Lazyboy and stair stepper, I have a massage chair. However you'd never know there was a chair there because it's positively mounded with clothes. Plus there are three suitcases next to it which are also mounded with clothes because the chair pile was getting too big.

But I like your room, and I think it's kinda cute about the flossing!

    1. You seem to travel a lot so I understand about the suitcases. I rarely travel but when I do I hate unpacking and my suitcase sits in my closet for a week or two. I am so lazy when it comes to unpacking.

  17. Ha, I hv not joined pinterest for this reason. I choose to be thankful for wht I hv and sometimes even blogs lead to a slippery slope...for me! All the super fit girls at the gym use the stairmaster!

    1. I haven't joined for the same reason, I don't want to feel bad about all the things I don't have because really my life is so great. Oh yeah & the fact that I probably couldn't navigate the sight anyway.

  18. Marie I love your bedroom, especially when we were watching a show and we had like 5 people on your bed. Yes I was sitting across in the bottom. Glenn thought he was all that cause he had all three sisters next to him, lucky guy....

    1. All growing up I slept with one sometimes both of my sisters, it was the best. We talked & talked all night long sometimes, probably why we're all so close now.

  20. I really like the bedroom! Very homey. "Dream bedrooms" might look beautiful in a picture, but many times they're not that practical, and I think they'd be a pain to actually live in. :)
