Down & Dirty
I can't believe it but I went camping. I don't like camping. At all. How ever was Glenn able to convince me? He said, "I booked us a site Wednesday night to go camping, you don't have to come".
Oh, did I mention we were a stone's throw from the beach? Really, is there any other reason to camp?
My niece Kylee, my sister Jeannette & my spunky 11 year old Emry.
Ethan is getting really good at skim boarding.
Especially when he has these older boys to impress. They were really good & I could see Ethan watching them and then trying to show off for them. It was all very sweet.
Talking to the lifeguards about the currents.
Note to self - living out of your car is no fun.
But living out of a tent isn't much better. We had to borrow EVERYTHING. I am not even sure Glenn & I own a flashlight.
Brutus was wondering when we could go home to our soft beds. You & me both Brutus.
I am so lazy I couldn't even manage to do foil dinners. I didn't want to keep track of the kids meals so I just poured everything into a big pot and let them pick out what they wanted.
Ethan & Nathan wanted to stay forever, they were completely in their element. Lila is more like me and said she missed feeling clean.
The Wallworks Lila didn't bring a jacket (was that my job?) so I told her to makeshift one out of her pajamas just tying the feet around her waist, worked like a charm.
The Roberts This pic reminds me of being a teen and how it's imperative to your livelihood to be a walking advertisement.
My heart is breaking it's just too cute this whole father & son thing and Glenn is so ridiculously handsome. Ethan, please grow up to be exactly like your dad. Just without the fascination for MMA fighting okay?
The sun goes down and all the skater boys come out to party.
Lila with her squirrel trap and the dollar she earned from Glenn for catching a squirrel. I am pretty certain she didn't catch a squirrel, but letting a 9 year old live in denial never hurt anyone. And this is what mom's who don't camp dress their kids in. Clearly I know exactly what I am doing.
The Roberts looking Good!
Good bye and good riddance to this fire that blew ash EVERYWHERE! If I want a real fire I'll just flip on the switch to my gas fireplace at home.
Good bye roughin' it, I hate you.

Oh my...so she braves the camping one more last time. Hilarious Marie. You are too much.
ReplyDeleteYou might be on to something with the feet pajamas and Lila. My friends that beach camp always put their kids in feet pajamas because they say "this way they don't get dirty." So they just let them run around like that.
I do love camping but the food is a pain. It's a lot of planning whether you do foil dinners or not. But, your food-lookin' good.
We're going camping at the end of June with family in Yosemite. Should be really fun.
I love Ethan and your good looking husband. Precious. I relate to what you're saying-about the father/son relationship. Very endearing.
I miss, miss, miss you and love, love, love you forever....
Shauna
I am brave. Hope that was my last experience. EVER.
DeleteI have been camping one time, in 8th grade (for 1 night!). I honestly have no desire to go again lol. But the beach. . . I could totally do the beach. . . just take me back to the hotel at night. :)
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling dirty. Not conducive to a restful night.
DeleteMarie this looks like such fun!Happy belated Easter!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fun. I like camping. My husband is the one who doesn't like it. Maybe I'll be able to talk him into a weekend this summer.
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents had a (homemade weird little) camper and camped on all their trips when my mom was little. I heard stories about it all the time. When my grandma was in assisted living, she once commented that she never did like camping. Think about the memories your kids are making.
The kids loved it. The funny thing is most people who 'camp' have these big RV's. We were one of the few people tent camping.
DeleteWay to be strong. RVs are for wimps. Also, RVs are expensive. We tent camp.
DeleteLooks like a fun time, despite the roughing it! One thing I don't like about camping is that gritties find their way into your bed no matter how hard you try to keep them out! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd then my 3 kids are so dirty and touching me and the bedding and the food.....lovely.
DeleteThis looks like So much fun and I also do not like camping..i will camp in an RV thats about it lol!
ReplyDeleteI am with you.
DeleteYay for making memories with your kids, even if you don't enjoy camping.. what a wonderful mama you are! :) I LOVE camping, i told Trevor just yesterday that I can't wait to do lots of it this summer! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I wish I enjoyed it but I'd rather hang out at the pool with the kids and then take a shower in my own house that night.
DeleteI would be in that element - its my husband who prefers fancy hotels vs. tents! Love all the pictures as usual. :D
ReplyDeleteCamping is only for the brave that's for sure. I'll comment on your blog soon, if you can believe (which shouldn't be too hard cause you know I am a mess on the computer) I am still having issues with Wordpress, it's neverending.
DeleteThe beach part sounds fun! Not so sure about the camping :)
ReplyDeleteThese are my feelings about camping, too. If there is a possibility that a bug might crawl over me while I'm sleeping (or awake), then I'm not doing it. ;o) What a good sport you are for going along, though.
ReplyDeleteWas the water really so cold that you needed wetsuits? I've never been to a beach on your side of the country. At least in Florida, those are pretty unnecessary...
Yes the water was freezing. It will warm up in the summer, but it's always pretty chilly to me.
DeleteHaha, I LOVE the footie-pajama-and-sandals combo. And I'm glad you got pushed out of your comfort zone to go camping--it looks like a great family time together! And I think all kids remember camping trips fondly--at least I know I loved going when I was a kid (although, yeah, isn't my first choice of trip these days either. I love hiking/woodsy stuff--but I want to go home at night :D )
ReplyDeleteI love hiking too, but not sleeping in all the grime. Plus with kids, they get so dirty and touch all the food, bedding, ME, everything. And yes Lila totally rocked the pj sandal combo :)
DeleteOhh, I'd never even factored in the added kid-dirt, yeah, that would be even less my scene. Maybe that's why I remember liking it as a kid--when getting covered in dirt and sticky was fun.
DeleteCamping = Lame * Beach = Awesome
ReplyDeleteProud of you for enduring :) How did we make it through 6 years of Girl's Camp? Oh yah, cabins, showers, everything cooked for us...Love you Marie!
Awww, love you too Marisa. Also we were young and didn't know better, ignorance is bliss. Camp Ritchie was really nice, I love that place. And remember we got 'canteen' everyday! Since I've never liked soda I always got 2 candy bars. Since I never got it at home I was in candy bar heaven!
DeleteIm right there with you and Lila. I always tell Kev that I'd love to go camping with him..in a hotel room.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a ball though!
I love hotels. The kids actually really love hotels. Glenn used to travel a ton and we've stayed in many. They love staying up as late as we do and the ice machine & elevators and eating out of course.
DeleteI LOVE Lila's pjs. I need a pair immediately! I might otherwise die. Looks like a great time was had by all!
ReplyDeleteThis is me ALL the way! I do not camp. I do not like to be dirty. I need running water and an electric heating and cooling system. Way to go roughing it! You have my utmost respect.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I don't plan on doing it ever again hopefully.
DeleteHa! I'm proud of you! I feel the same way about camping......... but you showed your kids that sometimes you have to get outside your box....... something they'll (and you'll) be talking about for years I bet! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd if they don't remember I'll just show them this post. I am sure as the years go by I'll keep exaggerating and before you know it I'll be saying we were camping for the whole summer! And then they'll have to think I am the best mom ever!!!!
DeleteI agree with you, Marie! Why didn't you take advantage of a quiet home all to yourself?! I know you love your family. I,personally, like the alone time.
ReplyDeleteI love them like crazy but I also love being by myself at home. Luckily ever since the kids were little Glenn has taken them to the beach for day trips and takes them swimming all the time without me. I get plenty of alone time so I thought I'd be a good sport, plus my sister was going so that was incentive to join the fun.
DeleteHaha I'm not a fan of camping either but each year I rough it for a few days with my husband so he will be happy. But we at least own a tent and flashlights. I'm still working on a getting a camper.
ReplyDeleteThey have companies that drop a camper right at your site. Wish we had the money for that.
DeleteBrutus is a cutie! Regardless you look like you had fun (:
ReplyDeleteI hate camping. My husband loves it but fortunately goes with guy friends every so often.
ReplyDeleteYes that's what friends are for, to indulge you in things your spouse doesn't want to.
DeleteI am cracking up at Lila's footie pajamas with sandals strapped on over top!! LOVE IT!! My girls would so think that was one of the best parts about camping. I can't stand camping either. I need the comforts of home or at least a decent hotel ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing time though full of family fun and love as always!!
It's a new trend, haven't you heard?
Deleteaww, i absolutely adore camping!! all of these pictures look like so much fun! and i can't tell you how long i've been craving smores!

You are such a trooper, my husband would love you.
DeleteI am SO with you on this! I'd love to be out there all day, but give me a mattress inside four walls for the sleep part! LOVE your photos!
ReplyDeleteExactly, I love being outside and at the beach, but sleeping in dirt and eating out of a cooler is no fun.
DeleteYou feel this way because all the cool people camp Marie. ;) I LOVE to camp. But it's ok that you don't. Friends we will remain. Well perhaps. I wore the same jeans and only washed them one while back packing Europe for 5 weeks. They were SO COMFORTABLE there by the end!
DeleteThis looks so fun!! Your family is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteOhmygoodness. How beautiful is your family!? Even while roughing it!? Wowza. I'm impressed. You wouldn't catch me within 30 miles of a campsite, but gosh, you guys make camping look good. Even if you did hate it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog! Can't wait to follow along and read lots more.
Thank you but if you noticed there is one picture of me, just one. I don't look good when roughing it.
DeleteI was just dying reading this post!
ReplyDelete1. Marcus and I are not campers At All. It's very popular for people to register for outdoorsy stuff when they get married as of late and we registered for none of it. I wish I were kidding when I say our power went out once last year and I had NO CLUE as to whether or not we even owned a flashlight!
1a. If I were going to go camping, the beach would definitely be the place to make it happen.
2. Your foil dinner in-a-pot cracked me up. I'm of the belief that after a hard day outside, basically anything will taste good, so I'm sure it was a hit with the group.
I feel vindicated that so many people don't enjoy camping, sometimes it seems like everyone just adores it and I am the loser that doesn't enjoy the outdoors. I love the outdoors, just not sleeping in it or packing up food and gear for a family of 5!
DeleteHahaha I just died laughing at your last line. Despite your hatred, your pictures turned out stinkin' cute.
ReplyDeleteNew follower! Thanks for stopping by my blog :) Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos. Seems like such a fun camping trip. I am sure you must have enjoyed despite camping being your least favourite activity
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm not a fan of camping either..but, it looks like y'all had a blast and that's all that matters. :) Hope you are having a great week!

Ha! Chad would be so jealous. Camping! I hate it, he loves it. Why doesn't he get that the logistics of packing up for 3 kids is darn near impossible?!? It looks like your Easter was perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteGod bless you woman for campign - you're my hero. I loathe it but I suppose if it's for the kids...I could muster a weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
I haven't been camping in forever. Some people in my family like it (okay, one or two) and some don't. I'm about ready to try it again :) Can't beat camping by the the beach!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww. That's the way I felt when I read your comment on my "bowtie" post the other day. I just have to say that it's all because of the Godly training my parents have invested in me. Made me laugh too about your son and the marriage thing! ;)

I am with you on not enjoying camping and for the same reason...I prefer to be clean (and I like running water).
ReplyDeleteHowever Glenn couldn't be more awesome as a dad...and he likes MMA too? What a keeper (I too am an MMA fan).
Thanks for sharing all of the wonderful pics from your adventures :)
Ugh I hate roughing it. My husband goes camping with the guys every year and I sit home and watch chick flicks, lol. I love the pictures, looks like everyone had fun.
ReplyDeleteI have always looked at camping as a very fun activity. It's also fun to let your kids out sometimes and let them learn and experience stuffs they will only learn outside the home. I bet you all had a good time.
