Endless Summer

I am in complete denial that school is starting next week.  We've truly made the most of each day; working, playing, being with friends & family and searching out every bit of fun we could.

Our day would usually start with breakfast, then chores, then some schoolwork from their teacher (me).

But once that was out of the way we had the rest of the day to get busy enjoying ourselves.  This is our church's girl version of Scouts.  It's called Activity Days & it's for girls 8-11yrs.  Twice a month they get together to learn a skill, work on self improvement or just have fun!

We arrived 15 minutes before the pet store opened.  The pet store that lets you hold all the puppies you want.  The longest 15 minutes of my kids life.

Cupcakes at an outdoor bakery at the mall.  Lila spent $20 of her own money on that tiara at Icings.  I tried to talk her out of it but it was pointless.  She said she'd always wanted one (huh?).  She wanted a sash too but I had to put my foot down on that one, that's just taking it too far.

My kids always found a way to beat the heat.

We watched dance performances on our front lawn with my cousin who stopped to visit us for the night.

I proved once again what a great hostess I am by making sure I was warm but leaving my cousin to fend for herself.  She is from Idaho though so I am sure she thought it was warm.

Jeannette Roberts, Marie Wallwork, Laura Duren

I found $10 while running only to realize it was $15!!!!  Best day of my life for sure.

Had lots of dinner parties.

A complete rip off of Cafe Rio's Pork Salad.  Best dish ever.

Coconut lime cupcakes/ Smore's cupcakes.  Heaven in a paper liner.

Eating Al Fresco.

Many of these days.

This must of been what the kids were doing while I was at Walmart.

Best Show Ever!!!!!!  Got this at the library and after 4 episodes my kids are hooked.  Glenn makes himself scarce when this goes on, I don't think he likes being upstaged by Michael Landon in the carpentry department.  And oh Nelly, she is so naughty, so fun to watch the banter between her & Laura.

Busy as always in the kitchen.  This is the start of Bananas Foster Banana Bread.  It was so good it was literally gone as soon as it came out of the oven.  Plus I am bad at taking pics when really all I want to do is eat it.

Being crafty.

This was my creation.  It took me almost 2 hours.  In my head I thought 'Marie this is so silly go clean a bathroom or something'.  But I decided to just be with the kids and enjoy the moment.

Because unfortunately, there is an end to summer.

  1. A princess is a princess is a princess. Maybe she can make a sash!

Better to be with the children than to clean a bathroom. Good art work!

And finding money always makes my day!

    1. We have more breaks throughout the year which I like. 1 week @ Thanksgiving, 3(!!) @ Christmas, 2 for Easter etc. Plus we don't take education on the West Coast as seriously as you all on the East. It's really important to us to have time to lounge on the beach.

  3. Marie! You have had such a great summer! I love it all-you are so great to get and do so much. I love the crayon art. I'm hoping for a better summer next year, but we had some fun moments nonetheless, one of which was having you with me for a day! Love you Marie, and always thinking about you.

And you're such a great and fun mom!!

'Little house on the prairie'?? :) My mom always tells us about it, because I think this were her first TV series to watch, when she was younger. :) Maybe I should get this for her birthday (and watch it with her:)).

  7. What an incredible summer! There is no time for boredom at the Wallwork house, that's for sure!

Those Smores cupcakes look amazing, so I probably shouldn't make them.

  11. What a wonderful summer montage. I know that I went through a weird-delayed crown phase in elementary school (inspired by the movie Anastasia), so I'd say just roll with it. Lila probably adores it for reasons unbeknownst to all of us.

  13. How fun are you?? How did you make that crayon art? I can't figure it out! I want to come hang out with you guys for the summer. We had a super boring summer here. I'm the "no fun mom." Sheesh.

    1. I am sure that new baby had something to do with it, slows you down somewhat. The crayon art was super easy, you just put the crayon in a candle flame and press on the paper. It dries super fast so we realized everyone had to have their own candle right in front of them so it would work best. I am not sure if this is the 'correct' way to do crayon art but it was our way.

  14. That looks like lots of fun. School starts most places around here next week, too. I was all freaking out today because the next time the summer Olympics are on, it will be right before my daughter starts school. Then I realized that's a ridiculous thing to stress about! The penny stack is pretty impressive.

  18. What a great post and the pictures are amazing! Yay for finding money randomly, good for them for "beating the heat" ;), and love that y'all homeschool! Coming from a homeschool family myself, I am so excited to hear of other families that take part. Keep up the great work. :)

I hope y'all have an amazing weekend!

    1. My kids do go to public school but I do a loose home shcool in the summer and during school breaks and on any furlough days we have. I don't feel at all qualified to take on 100% of their learning, but I feel they do need extra to keep up.

  20. Summer did fly by! Just this morning I was realizing how much darker it is at 6:30 and how much longer the rooster is sleeping in these days (thank goodness). As far as I can tell, you definitely had a Carpe Diem summer, and no one can ask for more than that. Also, I LOVE Little House in the Prairie. Husband always pokes fun at me when I watch it, but I don't care!

And Little House? Love the show and love the books. I think I saw every episode and read every book. Can't wait for my 7-year-old to hopefully love them too!

    Have a great weekend Marie!

I love that your kids build things with coins too. My girls always have towers made for their Littlest Pet Shop toys.
Oh and Little House...it was my favorite when I was younger and I am so happy my girls love it too! They read all of the books and now we watch the shows together.
