Happy Lately

Because we get to go swimming in January.  Also knowing that my kids are such good swimmers that if when they're fighting and crying I don't have to jump in.

This cute, sturdy, blue table that I found at the Goodwill for $14 that will go perfectly in Ethan's room.  He needed a place to put his CD player when I am too lazy to read the required 20 books he wants to listen to a book on tape.

Seeing these two eating breakfast before Baseball tryouts.  Glenn's been waiting his whole life for this.  And by the look on his face, Ethan is obviously psyched.

My lovely new tablecloth bought for  $1 at my favorite thrift store.  Of course I have to whip it off every time one of my kids sits down to eat, but it's totally worth it.

Lila starting piano.  So sweet.  Even sweeter is the lessons are taught by my mom who takes payment in the form of a sincere 'thank you'.

After being discontinued at WalMart, realizing I can find my Mormon coffee at Winco.

Remembering all I have to do to get wavy hair is sleep in braids.  Nothing gets by me.

My new $0.50 laundry bag.  It hides all the shameful  plastic bags I get at the grocery store when I forget my reusable bags.

Baking Chocolate Marble Chunk Cookies.

Emry's new coat.  She has lost at least a dozen since starting school so there is no way I can pay full price.  This gem was $2.00.   Finding a deal like that makes me glad I am alive.

Dinner at my mom's.  I love cooking but I need a break sometimes.  This roast was melt in your mouth.  Usually I could eat about 5x this much.  But because we get out of church so late I had just eaten a big lunch about 21/2 hours prior.  As soon as I took this picture fresh rolls courtesy of my sister Jeannette came out of the oven.  They were perfection.

Seeing the cute things the girls come up with.  The beach room may be set up in the freezer but is creative nonetheless.

Actually being invited to a friends house for dinner and having an opportunity to wear my new jumpsuit.  In my mind I need lots of outfits for my packed social calendar.  In real life this jumpsuit will last me the next 20 years.

  1. I love a "happy" post! What makes me happy is reading your post, getting ideas from you and well I could go on and on-you know.

Your mom is wonderful to give lessons. Blessed and lucky.

    I love the table cloth.

I love your hair-I'm doing that next time I wash and cute jumpsuit.

I'm totally on to your posting schedule so I can be first to comment. I hope that doesn't put any pressure on you. :)

    Love, Love, Love you always,

    1. You got me. I push publish Sun., Tue and Thur. nights so it's ready to read bright and early Mon., Wed. & Friday mornings. I am a Virgo, I have to have a schedule. Heaven forbid I get crazy and post on a Saturday or something?

I can't believe I forgot about the whole braiding my hair trick. I am such an amateur.

    2. Could you see the words on my post or just the pictures as I was editing? Because as soon as I "updated" your comment was there! A fun surprise!!

  2. Aw, this post made me smile! Ethan's picture is priceless! Did he end up getting on the team? Hope he likes it! And Lila playing piano!! Too sweet! It's awesome she can have quality time with Grandma learning how to play. Love your new purchases and hair too. I used to braid my hair all the time when I was in school and now I'm too lazy. There's a cool video on Youtube about using socks (twist around your hair then roll up into Princess Leia buns) to get nice waves - looks pretty easy and faster than braiding if you're sleepy. Still haven't tried it but my friend's friend said it worked great! Have a great week! Karen

    1. I am on it, going to google the whole sock trick, I am all about time savers. Everyone gets on the team, I am sure since this is his first time he'll be on one of the lower teams but you gotta start somewhere.

  4. I love finding great deals at thrift stores. We found a solid wood dresser at a thrift store a few years ago. We bought it and totally repurposed it, painted it black and stenciled the front. Our living room tv now sits on the top. We took the top two (smallish) drawers out and those spaces now house the cable box and blue ray player. And to think we got it for $11.00. Seriously! Can't beat it! Have an amazing week!

  5. i love finding all the little things that make me happy throughout the week! even in a week that wasn't particularly great, i can always find a few. :-)

i have a question that might be a silly one... can you drink decaf coffee? (pero is delicious, though! i like sipping on it before bed sometimes.)

    1. Nope! No coffee, no tea (herbal is okay because it's just spices), no smoking or drugs. We are also taught to eat meat sparingly and eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and veggies. I just realized I should do a post on our health code, yes?

  6. Thanks for reminding me to just look around at all the blessings I have that make me happy! I am a bargain hunter too - one night at the dinner table I realized that all of us were wearing garage sale outfits, and we didn't look too shabby!

    1. Totally. I look around at me and the kids (not Glenn) and everything we have on down to our shoes are garage sale or thrift stores. Love it!

  7. You are so cute! And I'm laughing because both of the photos of you have your dog staring at you with rapt attention!

I had a jumpsuit so similar to that when I was slightly younger and could pull it off. Mine was in an olive green/army color, and I loved it!

Those cookies are the yummiest looking!

    1. Yes, yes glad you noticed! If there is a pic of me Brutus is either in it, or close by me but not in the shot. He's obsessed with me and I have to admit I love it. My kids are getting to be way too independent. It's nice to be needed.

Love the pics of you, you look beautiful as you always do. Pero, I haven't had that in years, my mom used to buy it, I remember loving that mixed with some hot chocolate too. Mmm.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Mormons live by a health code that advises against coffee and tea (along with tobacco & drugs). Pero is made from the barley grain. It has no caffeine and is great with some almond milk and a bit of brown sugar. I am a hot drink addict.

  18. Hola Marie,
Do you happen to have your lemon bar recipe on your blog? I neeeeeed it :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Type in lemon bars at 'Allrecipes' and use the recipe on the first page titled 'The Best Lemon Bar Recipe'. Funny you should ask, for some reason these bars were on my mind the other day. Probably because they are so good. Just make sure to use fresh squeezed lemon juice.

I was racking my brain trying to install blogger comments on my own and after one long frustrating night, I woke up the next morning and it was just there, like magic! Maybe it was just automatically installed for all bloggers. I have no idea how the internet works I am just glad it read my mind.
