Shirley Temple Hair

Since I have straight hair I have always been obsessed with curly hair.  Of course.  I've tried so many curlers, curling irons & hair products throughout the years trying to get that elusive curl & body.

A few weeks ago in church I noticed my friend Shannon's daughter had this amazing curly hair.  Of course I noticed, it was beautiful and I wanted it.  I asked her what she used and she said she would check and let me know.  Days went by and when I emailed her about something else I put in an "oh yeah, can I get the name of those curlers?"  After bugging & hounding her I finally got the name "Curlformers".  I burned it into my memory, they would be mine.

Shannon mentioned I might want to take a friend who had their beauticians license so I could get a discount on the curlers as they are kind of pricey.  I said I would, but then rushed to 'Sally's' later that day.  I can be frugal, but what's 20 or 30 bucks, I can afford that, why bug anyone?  I couldn't wait to get my hands on them.

$72.95??????  It was so crazy I had to laugh.  I also had to go home and call my beautician friend Tiffany as we were dealing with a tad more than the price I had made up in my head.  After her discount plus the store's in store coupon for them (the stars were aligned for me that day) I got them for $50.

Oh I love these things so much.  Right on the ad it says "A hair curling Revolution", & it's true!!!  I am in love with these curlers. I only wish I had been so smart to come up with the genius idea of  the design.

I also wish I hadn't passed on my curly hair obsession to Emry so I might get a chance one of these days to see how MY hair turns out.

  1. Oh my gosh, as a fellow straight-haired gal, I want! Curling irons do nothing for me. I hope you get a chance to use them, I want to see the curly-haired version of you :D

  2. Totally want this look. My hair has some natural wave (that is now falling out as I get older) although not enough to wear it wavy and be cute. More like a "I just rolled out of bed and it's all over the place wavy." Emry looks so cute!

  3. Very cool! I am shocked at the price, though.

I have curly hair - in fact, it's nearly impossible to straighten (and keep straight). My daughters all have a slight curl, which I think is ideal.

    1. I agree. Hair with some slight wave is the easiest to work with and takes curl and style better. My hair is best when it's somewhat dirty and has product in it, then it takes hold of curl.

  4. My hair is straight as a pin - cannot get it to hold a curl to save my life. I begged and begged my Mom to let me get a perm in jr. high - it lasted all of three days! Emery is beautiful, but you already know that!

    1. I had a few perms growing up. I actually got one about 5 years ago and it only lasted a few weeks, but I really liked it. I am thinking of trying it again.

  5. Ok, those are awesome. Super cute and yes, a bit pricey. But, lucky you had Tiffany to help you out. I still love snap wrap and go too, those give my hair great body. Hope you are all having a good week so far, love you,

    1. It definitely works best with dirty hair or hair with some product it it. We do a lot of night swimming (in our community pool with tons of chlorine) and afterwards Emry rinses off but doesn't wash her hair, then we go home and put the curlformers in and they work like a dream. I lightly spray her hair with water before she sleeps with them so if she has clean hair I might spray her hair with salt water to make it hold better.

  8. As goofy as they look in, the final product sure turns out great!!! She looks adorable! I want to see what it looks like when you use them on your hair! I guess you sleep in them overnight?

These are a thing of the past, but do you remember those tiny pink foam rollers from the 80's and 90's? Before bed every night my mom used to roll my hair in those. I'm pretty sure everyone was surprised when I stopped using them and they realized my hair was actually stick straight. :o)

  10. Awww, so cute!!

It's funny how people with straight hair always want curly hair and people with curly hair always want straight hair. :) I have soft curly hair and I always wanted to have straight hair, but then as I got older I started loving my hair.

  14. Just order another set! I'd love curls like that--my hair is naturally wavy so it can't decide what it wants!

  15. I'm the curly haired person who always wanted straight! I had very long hair in college and did the old soup can thing. I say you set up a schedule...Emry gets the one day, you get them the next. I can't wait to see you in curls!!

  17. Ok these are awesome! Funny how those with straight hair want curly and those with curly would like straight.
Emry looks adorable and hopefully one day you will get to use them as well. Maybe you can pair your curls with an adorable outfit that you find for a couple of dollars (yes I am completely envious of your talent to pull together such awesome outfits so cheaply).

    Have a great day Marie!

  18. How cute! I loved when my mom or grandma would put "rags" in my hair so they would be curly for church the next day. Great memories!

  19. Whatever happened to the good ol' days.. the pink sponged curlers that hurt your head, and yet your mother made you wear them all night long? hum.

  20. Oh dear, my girls will NEVER need these and I PRAY they don't spend HOURS straightening their hair and ruining it. Daughter looks GREAT with curly hair.

  21. They came out so perfect! I should get some of theses but I HATE doing my hair. I always end up with a big knot and tangles. Or I will take forever (I mean hourssss) -- It's ridiculous!
