I think I owe my sister $300

Saturday was one of those perfect afternoons you just want to burn into memory.   Emry was spending the day at her friends and the 2 little ones wanted to go to a park across town.  If Emry was putting her two cents in I am sure the Apple Store, the mall, the dog park or going to the movies would have come up.   But it was just Glenn & I and the young ones, so the park it was.

They played non stop with all the new friends they made and when we heard the familiar chimes of the Ice Cream Man, we had to race to it like it was the Pied Piper.

Growing up the Ice Cream Man came by my house a lot.  Of course I never had any money but my older sister Margo did.  She had a big jug filled with coins and almost every day I would "borrow" a quarter  to buy a blowpop promising myself I would pay her back later.

I am not sure I ever paid her back.  I probably bought hundreds of those suckers, no wonder I have a mouth filled with cavities.

Ethan chose a Spider Man Ice Cream while Lila opted for a Watermelon confection.

They even shared.

Lila wore these sunglasses all day so we called her 'Hollywood' all day.  She basked in her fanciness.

Doing what kids do best.

Actually this is what kids do best, torturing each other.  Good times.

Since Emry's 11 and "so old" I am realizing it won't be too long before these 2 outgrow the park.

I am happy to go.  To watch them play.  And run.  And make friends instantly.  To "cook and have lunch" in the play structure.  To climb "mountains".  To laugh.

I just hope they don't become so infatuated with the Ice Cream Man they become thieves.

  1. How funny! I never had any money to put anything fromt the Ice Cream Man either. We would stare at it longingly as it went down the street. Just look at those precious little faces. :')

  2. I have great memories of the Ice cream truck from childhood - I would always get the chocolate/banana pop things but have no idea now what they are called! Love the pics of your little ones playing together.

  4. We didn't get ice cream from the ice cream truck very often! Looks like a beautiful day. If it's any consolation to you - my teens will still swing, try the monkey bars, and run around a park as long as we have the park to ourselves!!

  6. OMG, I remember the days of flipping couch cushions trying to find any change when we heard the ice cream man!

Hey, did you send me your address for the Chobani?? I was going through my emails and realized I never saw it. mybizzykitchen@gmail.com

  7. What an awesome day!
The ice cream man came to my house when I was a kid, and I would always buy a bag of Pop Rocks. Always. I don't know why- ice cream is so much better!

    1. Kids don't have the best taste. It's always candy over chocolate and bright colors over taste. Much more fun being a grown up with good taste.

  8. I love these crisp pictures, they turned out great. When the ice cream man came I always got that rocket Popsicle that is red at the bottom, white in the middle and blue at the top with a gumball topping it, always. It's supposed to be in the high sixties all this week, kind of a bummer, as I would like it to rain, but we'll take advantage of it. Happy Hollow and the beach are on the docket for this week once "school" is finished. Miss you,

    1. Loved going to Happy Hollow with you all, have fun. The dress Lila is wearing is from Margo, no tags. If it's still in good condition when she outgrows it, it's all Summer's.

  9. Hey I love that dress Lila is wearing...is it a Margo? So cute, I want it for my daughters. :)

  10. Love torture. My sister tortured me. And it's a good thing I forgave her! Maybe someday I will have energy for the park again. For now, it feels like a MARATHON!!!!

  13. Looks like a beautiful day! I love the ice cream truck, there was never one in my neighborhood growing up but there is one in ours now.

  14. Now if I could just get those ice cream trucks to come out where we live. I think we might be a little out of their way, though. :o(

This looks like a perfect Saturday in my book, too. I've missed having ones like these. Sometimes you just need to set the To-Do list aside and enjoy an entire day!

  15. I must say that I'm surprised your sister put up with your "borrowing" all the time. She's a nicer sister than I was to mine. lol

LOVE the photos of the kids playing and torturing each other. :)

  16. I spent my Saturday afternoon at the Apple store. Love that place! The park is also great too except in the winter it's chilly.

It's sad when kids outgrow the park.

    1. Emry & you would get along fabulously. Instead of me always asking her dumb tech questions she could actually learn something from you.

  17. Marie, I love when you write about the kids. It's so easy to see how much they are loved. They are very lucky, as you are to have them.

  18. You guys are so lucky to have nice enough weather to make it to the park year round...always a good time to watch the kids in action...and it's so good for them to run around!!

    1. We are pretty spoiled. But the thing is I don't think I would make it in any other weather, seriously. I literally wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't wear flip flops in January.

  19. I agree with Fran...your kids are much loved. As evidenced by the fact that you spend so much quality time with them AND give them ice cream. :) I need to take a lesson or two here.

    Gorgeous pics, as usual!

    Happy Monday my friend.

  24. It looks so gorgeous and warm there. Your kids are pretty cute, too. I used to get things from the ice cream truck when I was a kid. My brother was older so he'd race to it. I have once for my kids, but should really do it more once it gets warmer. The ice cream truck is kind of out of season here ;).

    1. Even though you can get better ice cream at the market, it's just so fun for them to buy it from the ice cream man, who comes year round here in California.

  25. I never got the ice cream man as a kid, lived in too small of a town. Oh, well. Now I go to food trucks for lunch treats every once in a while--the adult version of the ice cream truck :) Love the torturing picture. Oh, kids...

    1. O.k. I've never been to a food truck, I see them on the food network and some of them look so awesome. But at least in CA we have lots of great taquerias. But how cool if we had a taco truck going through the neighborhood!

    2. The best one here is a GRILLED CHEESE food truck--they have all sorts of gourmet cheese offerings (and the best part--VEGAN cheese offerings!) and add-ins like avocado, caramelized onions...you name it. I'd totally pick it over ice cream any day--although 6-year-old me probably wouldn't have agreed.

  26. What a wonderful day! I am sure the younger ones truly enjoyed the mom and dad time! (and the ice cream) I LOVE spending time with my entire family - but sometimes it's nice when someone is missing because it changes the dynamic.

p.s. Does the ice cream man still sell the Flinstone Orange push-up pops? Those were my favorite!

    1. You're so right. I felt like we went back in time just having the little kids. And yes the orange push pops are still a popular item.
