White Christmas?

Not Exactly.

More like an Ocean Blue Christmas.  (Isn't that a band?)  Wednesday was rumored to be in the 80's so I took the kiddos to the beach.  Glenn had to work, sigh......the beach is his favorite place in the world.

Emry thinks it's super fun to start off with her clothes on, then a swimsuit, then her wetsuit.  Basically she just wants to make sure everything she's brought gets sufficiently soaked.

Ethan was punching me then decided to punch the camera.  Glenn says he needs a brother.

This is Ethan and his best friend Emily.  Emily's dad Matt is one of Glenn's best friends from growing up, the guy who told us to move to Temecula.

I was in the hopital with Ethan (March 2005) when I got news Emily's mom (Emily was 7 months) had died.  She suffered from Postpartum-Psychosis.  She was the most on the ball mom you ever met.  After Emily was born everything changed.

Matt was left with 4 daughters to raise alone.  He has done a PHENOMENAL job.  Emily is such a Tomboy, the brother Ethan never had.

Just like his Dad!

Thank you Emry for taking a pic of me.  Thanks for not getting annoyed when I kept having you do retakes until you got one I liked.

My lunch.  My salads always consists of whatever's in the fridge.  Today's mix has lettuce, brussel sprouts, yams, tomato, red pepper, rosemary pecans, Costco deli turkey (the good kind), and of course a vinaigrette.

I also brought some greek yogurt with bananas and cocoa pita chips.  Cocoa pita chips are Awesome!  I've only found them at one store here but I am on the lookout for more.  They are super crunchy and very cocoa-y and not too sweet.  Basically perfect.

Jen was also passing out Saltine Toffee.  Nothing like sitting around in your bathing suit eating Christmas goodies.

Our version of a snowball fight.

My niece Kylee (in white) and her friend Sophie (in stripes).

Emry making a dribble castle.

It was a lovely surprise to run into a bunch of friends from church.  There were about a dozen moms and about 50,000 kids.  Don't believe me?

Sue (left) has 6 + her friends 4, Jen (shading her eyes) has 4, she is Matt's sister and brought 2 of his girls, Jeannette (my sister in stripes) has 3, I have 3, Rachel 4, Chelsea 4, Tanya 4, Julie 2, Dyana 3, Melanie 2 and a few more moms and kids who I didn't know that well.

Either we're the best moms ever, or we're just hoping we'll wear them all out and they'll sleep for 20 hours.

Time to go fill the van with sand and then ignore it and hope Glenn cleans out the car.

 Who needs snow anyway?

  1. Yes, I'm the first to comment! Marie, these are some of my favorite pictures from your blog. I love them, this last one is just fantastic. What a fun day! What do you mean you ran into the gals? You didn't go with them, that's pretty coinciental, but then again maybe not. I want the pita chips, they sound great. Tell me the brand and I'll look for them here or a different brand. I have to go to Whole Foods tomorrow for some things. Do you need anything? Actually, I wanted to ask you something...

If a recipe calls for cake flour is it crucial to use it? Maybe it was pastry flour it called for? Well either way, is it really important?

I love the beach, this weather has been amazing, although Kirk and the kids are sad there is basically no snow in Tahoe or the US for that matter. They really want to go Snowboarding.

And you look very beach glam in your hat and cute suit. Miss you and love you,

  4. I'd take a day at the beach over snow any day of the week. Looks like a lovely, lovely day. We are hoping to make it to the beach again this summer. It's one of the things I miss most after we left Florida.

  9. How fun and even better that there were a million other kids there for your kids to run around with. Great pics- loving your hat and coverup! Your friend Matt sounds like an awesome guy- wow, I can't even imagine dealing with all of that!

  10. Yes I did run into all of my friends. Jeannette & I had planned to go and I guess Jen sent a text to a lot of girls (obviously didn't get it). Since the weather was so nice on that day everyone was on the same page. And since Oceanside is the closest beach that's where everyone goes.

Shauna you use 1 cup flour minus 2T then sub in 2T cornstarch and sift a few times. It depends on your desired outcome whether or not it matters. If you want a light fluffy cake it matters. If you like a heartier earthy texture then it doesn't.

  20. Oh my goodness, I can't get past the fact that your friend died and left her husband and four daughters behind. How tragic. Wow.

And that *is* a lot of kids! But it looks like SO much fun! Next time, can we come? :)

  24. I will take beach weather over snow weather any day of the week!

My heart breaks for your friend, Matt. It is wonderful to know that you, Glen and your children continue to reach out to him and his girls. That will continue to mean more than you ever know. My mom died when I was 7 yrs and left me and my dad solo. I (and he!) will never forgot those people that made a similar impact and showed us continual support over the years.

  27. Hello, best Moms EVER. Tiring the kids out doing something they LOVE is a win win. BUT, you have to deal with the sand SO you know you did it for them...
