$23 Well Spent

I went shopping with my mom, sister and Grandmother ( in town visiting from Utah) and came home from the Goodwill totally happy with some new stuff.

*Thrift skirt, thermal at least a dozen years old that I've used for working out for years but now it's back in my everyday rotation.  Anyone else do that?  Didn't think so.   White tank, because I wear them with most outfits as you will see, sandals bought last year at Marshalls, & Walmart digital watch cause I am cool like that.

*Thrift skirt, same white tank, thrift sweater/shrug from the girls dept., no big deal, just stretched the arms out a little and forced my way into it, same sandals.

You can't be too picky when you thrift.  But actually it was exactly what I was looking for as I love the look of a tank but I don't wear sleeveless because of religious/modesty reasons so this little sweater worked out perfect.

*Thrift skirt, thrift shirt (bought a few months ago), same tank, Dansko shoes.   The skirt is cuter than the picture and has a nice comfortable wide cotton waistband.  Perfect for our hot summers here and will go with any T shirt.

*Thrift dress, same tank, Target shoes bought about 6 years ago on clearance for $3, they are my favorite pair of sandals.  I love this dress!  It needs to be sewn in a few places and a button put on at the waistband (I just rigged/taped it for the pic) but I love the length and color and silky feel of it.

The dress is supposed to come together and button but since I don't have a 20 inch waist I can only button it so far.  I actually like the look of it better, showing the tank underneath and all.  I am not a seamstress but I can put in a few stitches myself.  I am really excited about this dress.

*Thrift dress, thrift shoes (bought in Utah a few years back for a few bucks), Target belt.

This dress is a gorgeous green color and has rouching at the shoulders and a great neckline.  I am not sure if this belt is the right match but I'll work on it.  This dress has shoulder pads so I need to take them out.  It might need a few tweaks but nothing serious.

And that my friends is how it's done.  3 skirts, 2 new church dresses and 1 little shrug for just over 20 bucks.

  2. Marie I love the two long skirts, love! And the dress that your 20 inch waist fits into. So cute. I'm so glad for the fashion show, so much better than just pictures of the clothing!!!! You're always the thrift inspiration. Love you and miss you,

    Shauna

I left you two messages today. Sorry about the stalking, I thought I'd be able to catch you the second time... :)

    1. I take being stalked as a compliment, we were at the girls play practice which just started up.

You read wrong I said I DON'T have a 20 inch waist, yikes can you imagine? But apparently the original owner did.

  4. Love all that you purchased... what a steal! You look adorable. I have several friends tell me that they thrift for a lot of their baby/toddler clothes. I can't wait to do this in the future!

    1. Oh Brittnie for sure! Babies ruin their clothes and you turn around and they've outgrown them. You can get so many cute baby clothes for such great deals. You have enough expenses with a baby I would definitely save money where you can. I rarely bought my babies anything new. Sometimes you can't help it, but start with the consignment stores and thrift stores first.

    1. Thanks. The ironic thing is I am not really into fashion, my days are spent cooking and cleaning and helping with homework. I can be really lazy with clothes but I am trying to make more of an effort.

    1. Thanks Allie. I love the long skirts too. You can wear them year round here with sandals in the summer and boots in the winter.

    2. I want your California weather! Not even going to lie--wore leggings under pants (yup, double pants) for a large portion of the winter here.

  9. You look so pretty in everything! And shoulder pads- haha I love it!
I'm not trying to sound rude, but honestly don't know. Can you explain to me the religious reasons for not wearing sleeveless? I love learning about your religion. :)

    1. We are advised to treat our bodies as temples hence the no smoking or drinking & eating well. Also no tattoos or extreme dressing no sleeveless/strapless, no two piece bathing suits, no midriff baring, shirts should cover the shoulders and skirts/shorts to the knee.

One of an LDS person's main goals is to enter the temple which we consider very holy & sacred (there are temples all over the world, my closest one is in San Diego). Once you make this commitment you also wear certain garments under your clothes that make it impossible to be immodest.

This is why it is extremely easy to spot an LDS person. They wear long shorts, T-shirts that cover their shoulders and usually have a dozen kids trailing them. O.K. maybe half a dozen. But family is the most important thing to us.

Lauren I love your questions. Religion fascinates me too. Keep em' coming.

  10. I heart Goodwill. I found the best sweater there a few years back, even though it's since been referred to as my Obi-Wan (Star Wars) Sweater. Still, I love it and that's what counts. You are gorgeous, and I especially love the 2 skirts and that last dress.

    1. I heart it too. Ours just got redone and it is so nice and organized. They've upped the prices but they have 50% off days 4 times a month, that's when I go.

  11. If we lived closer we'd be the best thrift store buddies! I don't think I have bought clothes retail for at least 15 years. And no one knows the difference!

My favorite outfit is the yellow sweater/blue skirt - its my goal that once I get rid of my damn belly fat to wear a skirt - I haven't worn a skirt or dress since about 2005! :(

    Happy Friday!

  12. Way to score some great deals- you look super cute Marie!! I especially love the skirts! I wish I could but I can't handle thrifting, I can barely handle walking into a store like TJ Maxx, I have a hard time digging and would rather pay to see organized color coordinated racks.

    1. I know exactly what you mean. I must say I kind of have an eye for it and can zero in what I like pretty fast. I don't dig.

  13. I think I've told you this before, but I really like your style! And you look 15 years old in the yellow shirt/blue skirt picture!

I LOVE thrifting clothes. I do it for myself and for Lexie. (Cory is a little more particular about his...) My favorite though is when my friends go through their closets and I get whatever I want for free. Can't beat that! ;o)

  15. Thrifting clothes rocks...although I admit I don't usually have the patience to go rummaging through the racks. Lovely choices. I do, however, love TAKING stuff to the Goodwill. That's an entirely different story...

    1. I can go through a whole rack in under a minute. I can tell by fabric & pattern if it's something I like. Then holding it up I can totally tell if it might fit. I am fast.

I love taking stuff as well, love it. Cheers to purging.

  16. Holy holy holy, you are so cute.

Thrifting, I've always threatened myself that I would get into it.

Then I remember my options, the DI. Which is really just something I can't do. But I thrift books, so technically i do.

Whoa. Marie. Marie. your comments always make me smile.

    1. You must visit Goodwills or Salvation Armies or the good ol' Christian thrift stores when you travel, there's so much good stuff. I do get all my books from there as well. 12 bucks for a book? No thanks, how about 50 cents.

  17. I've never really seen a picture of you before I don't think, other than your profile picture (that I can remember at the moment, at least!)... you are SO BEAUTIFUL, Mrs. Marie! And I cannot believe the wonderful finds you scored! We should get together on a thrifting trip ASAP ;)

Thank you for your kind words. My sister, Marli, and I were talking today about how much we loved you and how sweet you are to comment on our blogs.

  23. I LOVE getting a good deal - and love second hand clothing. However, I feel like the stars have to be aligned for me to find anything I truly love. That, and I have to have the patience to be thorough in my search. :)

I hate when I buy something just because it's cheap when I don't really LOVE it. A $5 shirt is still expensive and a waste of money if I never wear it. But you... you are fabulous in every outfit!

  24. Great finds! I really love that long yellow skirt.

  25. Every thing you bought is gorgeous. Everything. But the thing is that when you are as naturally pretty as you are it doesn't matter what you wear or spend because you look like a million bucks!

Hope you are having a great Sunday so far.

  26. Oh my gosh all of that is SO cute! Thrifting is definitely hit or miss, but when you find a good deal, it's the BEST!
