Brand Names

We had tons of these eggs growing up.  Boxes upon boxes.  Did I giddily unwrap the foil like Charlie looking for the Golden Ticket?  Nope.  I am proud to say I've never liked them. (Cadbury mini eggs however are a whole other delicious story)

Growing up our house was filled with Cadbury creme eggs, Cadbury chocolate and Cadbury candy bars during Easter.  Why?   Simple.  My dad was a buyer for grocery stores and brought home boxes of candy during the holiday and other food and products throughout the year.

I have memories of all sorts of logo'd paraphernalia from my childhood.

There was the red Armour (hot dogs) knit scarf and matching hat that would totally be considered kitsch today.  My dad's La Victoria (salsa) golf bag.  Numerous book bags, hats and about a million polos, some of which my dad still wears.

There were others for sure, like this gem I found at my mom's house tonight.  I swear this beach towel has got to be at least 30 years old.  'Waste not, want not' is very much my mom's motto.

Just another thing I can hang over my kids heads.  When they want the latest styles or brand name jeans I can just tell them I wore a hot dog scarf to school.

I win.

    1. I can't believe there's such a thing as being allergic to chocolate! That's a downright tragedy.

  2. I have never liked the gooey center of those wrapped eggs. Just give me plain chocolate!

  4. If only you still had that hot dog scarf you could be rockin' that on a daily basis.

  5. Ha! Instead of Nike or GUESS, you got to wear Oscar Meyer! Awesome! ;o)

Growing up, my mom was very anti buying us anything super cool or popular. I hated it at the time, but now I'm REALLY glad she did because I have zero urge to own the brands and items that are considered fashionable. I like being the off-brand girl.

  6. Oh, those Cadbury mini eggs...they are trouble with a capital "T"!! I buy bags of them and hoard them for the rest of the year. That crunchy sugary coating and that oh so good chocolate in the middle...YUM!!!
We have tons of stuff with Del Monte on it. My uncle used to work there when I was little. My 8 year old still wears one of the soft warn t-shirts for a nightgown. She loves it!

  7. Those eggs really aren't that great. I love hearing about your childhood. It's so interesting to me. I definitely grew up poor and remember wanting nicer things. I am so glad I didn't have them though. It really has made me appreciate the simple things and not be materialistic, though I do sometimes lust for cute outfits I see in magazines.

Hot dog scarf made me crack up.

  8. Ha that is so cool. My mother is product reviewer so we get a lot of free brand named food, clothes, etc. A lot of times food companies include hats, pens and more. Hope all is well!

  9. This post is so funny. I can just see you in that hot dog scarf now...awesome. Those mini eggs are so dang good it's ridiculous. I don't buy them but my sweet husband does, even though I tell him not to because I can't resist eating an entire bag myself.

And I will go against the grain here, I see everyone has said they don't like those Cadbury eggs with the creamy center, not me, I love those too.

Have a great weekend! Love you,

    Shauna

  12. I wouldn't say I like Cadbury Creme Eggs as much as I am compelled to eat one or two a year.

When I was ten, I would have hated wearing a hot dog scarf. Now, I'd totally wear it proudly.

  19. I used to LOVE Cadberry cream eggs...but over the last few years, I've come to realize they aren't as good as the used to me. I think they changed the recipe...because my sweet tooth sure hasn't changed. Now they aren't worth the calories.

  20. That's too funny! I wish you had a picture of the hot dog scarf and hat!
I'm not a big fan of those eggs. Now let's talk Reese's Peanut Butter eggs. ;)

  21. I find it interesting that some brand names have become synonymous with the product. Like... Kleenex or Qtips.
