Thrifting June 2012

Thought I'd put the date since it seems y'all feel like me and love a good bargain, so I am sure I'll be posting my finds more often.  I am no blog expert but I did notice One Post was out read way way more than any other post I've ever done.  So I decided to give the people what they want......... DEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This thrift store expedition did have a purpose, two actually.  First the girls needed black leggings and shirts for their upcoming play and black is not a color I ever buy for them so we had nothin'.  Second Emry wanted a yellow shirt and skirt  as her & some friends were dressing up as characters from 'The Mysterious Benedict Society' on the last day of school.  Some kids take the opportunity of lax teachers to break the dress code, my daughter takes it to dress up as a character from one of her favorite books.  Long live book nerds!!!!

Thrift stores are not always a deal.  I love to hit up the 50% days, everything I bought this day was 1/2 off.

Sparkly, blingy sweater $1

Summer shirts $1 each

 2 black leggings & 2 black shirts, total $3

 Lila's striped dress $3.50, Emry's grey sweater dress $4

Tan Gap sweater for Lila $0.75, pink Old Navy jacket for Emry $1.50

Shirts for Emry $1 each, skirt $5 (jeans her own) Five dollars was more than I wanted to pay but finding a yellow skirt proved more difficult than I thought.  This was found in the 'boutique' section, where they put the nicer items.

Jacket $2, - shirt $1, shorts $2

shirt $1, jeggings $2.50 (someone's gettin' used to striking a pose)

 sweater $1

church shirt $1, sweater $1  -  The sad crying picture is because on the way home from church Emry was saying that she was the favorite child and for some weird reason Ethan believed her and couldn't get over it.  So glad I found this nice summery shirt for Ethan since he only has 2 other church shirts.

t-shirts $1 each, sweatshirt $3.50

shoes $2 -  These were the only shoes in Ethan's size and thank goodness they're perfect for the summer.  When we got home I threw away his other 2 pair of shoes that he had worn out!

kid's game $2 -  The kids & I have already played this game a few times, they totally surprise me with their clever answers.

unpictured, brand new w/tags bathing suit for Lila (cause we go through em' like water here) $1
Disney movies $3 for 3

Grand Total $49.75

Now if only the thrift store sold organic milk and eggs I'd have it made.

  3. I can't even believe what all you got for that amount of money. That's crazy fantastic! And the models are just the best ever!

  4. Awesome finds! Our thrift stores never have prices that low - or maybe I haven't found the right thrift stores...

    Your kids' poses are awesome!

And I love "The Mysterious Benedict Society" - how awesome that Emry and her friends are dressing up as characters from the book!

  5. You have raised some very patient kids. That, or they are all budding models. Lexie never would have put up with the clothing changes and photos for more than 2 shots. :o)

I hardly ever go to thrift stores anymore because the best ones are an hour away, but I do love a good yard sale! That's where practically all of Lexie's clothes come from. Justice jeans for a quarter? Don't mind if I do...

  6. Could your models be any cuter?? I think not. Yeah, change that to--definitely not. And I totally used a "free day" from uniforms to dress up as Star Wars characters with my friends. Where's the fun in a lax dress code day if you just wear stuff you can wear at home anyway??

Anyway, impressed by your thrifting as always! I've figured out lamps, but I have yet to have much luck finding clothes.

  7. How adorable are your kids?! Like little super models!!
I love Scattergories- it's probably my favorite board game ever. I lost mine somewhere in between moving so many times in my 20s... I need to go pick a new one up!

  8. I love your thrifting posts. I am always amazed at the things you come home with. I wish we had stores as nice as the ones in California.

Keep up the good work and we'll have to work on the milk and eggs. Maybe the Wallworks should get a cow and some chickens...

  10. You and Glenn sure make beautiful children! You have such an eye for shopping too! I can't believe all of the cute things you found. I am also completely smitten that Emory wanted to dress up like Mr. Benedict's assistant. I love that series of books. I read them and then passed them to Ash to read.

  14. The modeling just kills me!

I think the biggest thing is that you go on a day where things are discounted (MAJOR deals) and you don't buy crap-things. You actually go with a purpose. I've definitely found that when I thrift with something in mind it's WAY easier to say no to things that aren't Just Right. What a great haul - definitely make this a regular feature. I can truly say I've never read another blog where this has happened so I would love to keep up with your bargains.

    1. Thanks, honestly I get high off thrifting. And you're right, you need to not get carried away with how cheap things can be and really zero in on what you need and what you'll use.

  15. How good is it that they had exactly what you went for!

I scored for myself today at GoodWill: two pair of summer pants, a top and two dinner plates. Good stuff!

    1. You can always get books at garage sales, & super cheap too. Books are one of those items that just don't hold resale value.

  17. Excellent Marie!

I am 5' 10 - my weight is none of your bloggers business, but I'll tell you if you really wanna know.. and you can definitely go thrifting for me ANYTIME.

For the record I was joking, it is your bloggers business.. I love your followers.. OF COURSE.

  20. Good deals. Cute kids. I'm starting to do the garage sale thing around here. I have an experienced friend who knows what good prices are.

  22. I wish I could be more like you. I love a great bargin but I never try too hard to find one. I love the fact that your kids posed for these pictures, btw. What an awesome family!

  23. Whoa those are some AWESOME thrift store finds!

  24. That's amazing! Thrift stores are perfect for kids because they grow out of their clothing so quickly and you always need to buy new once. Those are amazing finds and I bet your kids had fun modelling the clothing :)

    1. Exactly!! They are also so hard on clothes as well. My kids play dirty, haha, but seriously they wear clothes out. Kids don't care how cute an outfit is, chocolate, glitter glue & dirt always win out.

  25. You are a thrifting legend in my book! Way to score big time!

  26. Nice job! You can't thrift in our area- too expensive and picked over! It is cheaper to go buy new stuff than most of our thift stores- especially the quality for the price. Sad, huh?

  27. The kids look so good! We have no such concept of thrift stores here in Bahrain :-(
