Easy A

I am bragging, so be it.  I am extremely happy with the grades my kids are earning.  How can I not be pleased when Emry freaks out if her grades dip below an A-.

Truthfully though I know our Education system is flawed and I know that good grades don't tell the whole story.  But what I see at home, and what I see when I help in the classroom is that of earnest kids.  More important than just getting everything right my kids truly love to learn.

When I wake Ethan up in the morning he sleepily asks what day it is, when I tell him it's a school day he says "Oh good, I love school."  Ethan also informed me he' the teacher's pet and has been in every grade.  He's also smart enough to realize I am the only person who appreciates this information.

They are curious and love figuring things out.  Whether it be a magic trick, how to make a flexagon, turning my home upside down with all of their campsites/forts/wonderlands, etc. or guessing how a mystery book will end.  The library is sacred to them and they love being there among all the treasures.

Ethan & I were doing a brainteaser the other day and we needed the name of a 5 letter snake with 2 d's.  I refered to our resident reptile expert and Emry thinks for half a second and says "Adder".  Huh?  Who knew that your child knowing information like that could make you so proud.

I may not have provided them with all the latest and greatest technology, but I think I've done something better.

They have an imagination.

And while straight A's may not always be a part of their future, I hope they never stop trying to figure out the mysteries of the world.

  1. Yes ma'am, if you've been fueling their desire to learn, it's a wonderful thing. Love this!

  2. Straight A's don't mean everything (ok they do if you're a premed student), it's the desire to learn that's important! If you love learning, school no longer feels like a chore and you do well. Anyways, we are meant to be life long learners so it's great that they love learning. Sounds like they're on the right track ^^

    1. But of course I've totally brainwashed them because I love it just as much.

  4. This is great Marie. You're doing such a fantastic job. I'm happy for you, being a mom is the best job I can think of and its an even better job when the kids are happy and thriving. Have a great weekend. Love,

  5. Curiosity and a good imagination are staples around here, too! I love hearing good grades are being made, but finding out that she actually enjoys the learning that creates those good grades is way more important to me!

  6. I love it when kids are invested in their grades. That is a good sign, my dear. Congrats.

  7. I'm so impressed with your brilliant kids! I freak out when Maya brings home a not-so-good grade. Oddly enough they use a number system with a 4 being an A...maybe it's less traumatizing when she doesn't do well? Who knows. LOL

Hope you are having a great weekend Marie!

  8. 'They have an imagination.' Love this!!
    Great kids.

I started to go to the library with my little guy about 6 months ago and he loves it. He adores books. He loves listening when we read books to him. I hope this will last. And last ...

  10. I was terrified of school growing up, so I love that your children thrive on it.

I'm still terrified of school, one day.. one day I'll return.

  13. I'd be really proud if I were you too. :) It's a joy when the child is self motivated to learn, to imagine and create. :)
