Raise the Roof

Emry wrapped up our local Community Theater's production of 'Fiddler on the Roof' this past weekend.  They've all been working so hard since September so it was great to see the whole thing come together and see the kids having so much fun in the process.

I would totally have pegged Emry for a total sports nut.  She's strong and fast, daring and unafraid, and just like her dad excels at every sport she tries. Although she's tried many sports and is very active biking and surfing and just being a kid, where she wants to devote her time is to the theater.  At least right now at this time of her life, who knows what the future holds.

Clockwise from top Left - goofing around with cast mates backstage, Emry in costume with her "wife",  in some of her costume doing homework during rehearsals, letting her braids out for the after show bows

I have so much fun watching her enjoy this whole process so thoroughly.  It's so great when your kids find something they just love.  Even though it was bumpy at the beginning with Emry not getting the part she wanted, and then getting cast as a man, and to top it all off  had just 1line!  It stung for sure.  I saw the tears and they were real.  But she shaped up right away and was just so glad to be a part of the whole thing.

I love all these theater kids.  They are so funny and go around singing and dancing and being silly.  They support each other and push themselves to go outside their comfort zone, to ad-lib, work together, play to the audience, and not take themselves too seriously.

Emry now has a 2 week break and then starts production on "The Little Mermaid".  Here's hoping she gets to be more than just some seaweed.

  1. I understand it would have been pretty tough for her to get okay with the idea of being cast as a man.
The pictures are pretty nice Marie:)

Thankyou for stopping by my blog and commenting.

  2. I'm glad she found a way to enjoy a less-than-ideal part. And I hope she gets a part she LOVES for "The Little Mermaid"!

  3. I guess it's good that she sees both sides of the theatre...the big parts and not so big parts. It will be fun to see what she gets in "The Little Mermaid." Gwyneth has been bitten by the theatre bug as well. She has play practice on Thurs. and Sat. morning and she couldn't love it more. She comes home singing and dancing, just as you describe above. Fun pictures. MISS you and LOVE you...

    1. I love it, and I am not even in it :) It's such a fun creative outlet, I think it teaches kids so many important lessons. Love you too, and as for being annoying on the computer, who do you think you're talking to? I make more mistakes than anyone!

  4. Okay, sorry this is me Shauna. This is going to get annoying fast, since Kalen is a regular blogging fool now, he keeps forgetting to sign out. Sorry.

  5. Oh acting is so much fun! I remember I did some Shrek like production in school and sadly enough I got some sucky soldier role. The funny thing was I was in every single scene and had more lines then Shrek. Emry will play a gazillion roles and sometimes they don't turn out as you'd expect them too. Hopefully for the best though :)

  9. That is great! It looks like she truly loves it!
I grew up performing in musicals and plays. My last musical was a year after I had Dylan, but it was just too time consuming. I really miss it. I hope one of my kids gets the performing gene!!!

  10. My daughter was always in choir - I miss those great high school performances!

Ah, the Little Mermaid - my daughters favorite movie growing up - she's probably seen it 1000 times! (and I can still sing all the songs, some 15 years later!)

    1. I'll tell her you said so, and that doesn't surprise me at all, I am sure the plays were fabulous.
