A Great Day

After  a morning of cleaning bathrooms I thought my kids deserved an afternoon at the beach.  We enjoyed the bit of sun that was out but truth be told they're going in regardless of the weather.

They jumped waves, collected seashells (that are all over my front lawn right now), did acrobatics, and took a walk with their Grandmother & I up and down the beach.

All along Oceanside Pier are Fishermen, one was kind enough to let Emry hold a small Octopus he had caught in his net before he threw it back in the water.  It made her day!  I told her she could cross that off her bucket list, once we write her one.

Ahhhhhhhh, they're so cute.

My mom bought us dinner at a dive my kids love called Angelos, Glenn always stops there after surfing.  I salivate over the onion rings, but this place is a tad too greasy for my taste.

My kids are watching wrestling on a T.V. above them.  It's my nightmare come to life, they're eating greasy food and watching violent television.  At the same time.

On the way home they read their favorite comic books, 'The Far Side'.  They read these over and over, they just love them and surprisingly they get a lot of the humor.

Just a little preview of what's to come this summer.  Life is always good in SoCal.

  1. Um, and in Nor Cal since you will be spending a portion of it with me, be it a short time but still. :). I love these pictures!!!! What a great day. I almost took the kids to the beach on Saturday but couldn't get up the courage without Kirk. Maybe it's because I have three babies. In a couple of months the last three will be 1,2 and 3. Glad you had a great time. The Octopus is amazing. Can't wait to show the kids in the morning. What great luck for Emry.

    Love

Ps we are reading the most hilarious family novel called "A Long Way from Chicago". I am laughing so hard reading it, it's great. Put it on your list.

  4. What a perfect day! Emry will definitely have to add "hold an octopus" on her bucket list, so she can cross it off!

  12. It kind of looks like a PERFCT day. Nothing better than a beach day with the little one, plus an octopus!! Too cool!

  13. Ah to have beach weather right now (it is freezing rain outside..no fun).

Good to see the kids had so much fun...and as for your nightmare, it could be worse than greasy food and wrestling. At least they have been exposed to the other side of life.

Keep enjoying those far sides they are so very funny, love Gary Larson.

    1. I know right? He is not only brilliant but a genius for appealing to all ages with science and laughter. Those 2 things don't usually go together :)

  15. In the picture where the girls are holding hands with their backs to you, did you tell them to or did they do that on their own? Such a lovely family.

    1. They did it on their own! I actually took about 4 of these pics in a row, they are all so cute. My girls share a room and I really feel it's something that makes them closer. They have a great relationship. Even though Emry is only 2 years older she seems (and looks) about 3 or 4 years older. She is definitely the protector of the 2 other ones.

    2. My older sister and I shared a room (she is 2 1/2 years older than I) and we never had a good relationship. I am so happy for you and your children.

  22. I am missing the ocean after your post too! We've been to southern California and love it!! Maybe another trip in a few years...it's my goal. It looks like you all had a wonderful time..even the greasy food and wrestling. Oh, and the baby octopus is my favorite--how cool!

  23. Looks like so much fun especially from over here on the east coast where summer still seems really far away. Greasy food and violent TV are definitely things I fear, lol.
