Gracias, Mahalo, Merci

Or -  if you're like my grandmother, you could say thank you by giving me this...............

That would be 50 lbs of Oat Groats.

My Grandmother is 88 and stayed with my family last week.  Every time she stays here she buys me a thank you gift.  Last time it was a new toaster oven as mine was literally falling apart, this time it was a gigantic bag of grains.

Got out my handy dandy oat roller, rolled some oats and made granola STAT.

I took 2 pictures of my mom, sister,my Grandmother & I while she was here.  They were horrible of us all so I deleted them thinking I would take more later.  I never did and now I regret deleting the bad pics.  But I do have pictures of my lovely granola.  Granola never looks bad.

And this dishcloth.  When I eyed it at the thrift store I almost cried.  It was fate.  I was meant to have this cloth.  Kitchen Tea Towels are my favorite thing ever.  If they are vintage and have a cool picture or saying, I want it.  Just to look at, and cover rising rolls, and put a bowl of granola on, and love.

I also love my Grandmother very, very much.  Next time she's in town a picture will be taken of us, and no matter how bad I look, I promise I won't delete it.

  2. I had a recipe that called for oat groats. I couldn't find them. Need to talk to your Grandmom~ Never, ever delete a photo especially with a Grandmom or Grandpop in it. They (the Grandparents) are way too precious. I was fortunate to have my Grandpop until I was 29 and my Grandmom until I was 39 and I still miss them everyday. One time I found an old roll of film that was not developed. It had photos of my Grandmom and I was so excited to find it. Besides, you always look Beautiful!

    1. I would do a google search or ask your health food store where to get oat groats. My mom gets them for me at a grainery about 45 minutes from our home.

And I will take your advice on not deleting future pictures, you're right.

  3. I do that, too. I hate being so vain that I delete pictures of myself even though I love the people and the memories that are in them with me. I gotta get better about that.

Your granola looks lovely!!! How long will that pan last in your house? Not long in ours...

    1. The kids aren't too keen on the granola so it lasts a while, maybe a month (I keep it in the fridge so it stays fresh and crunchy). My sister's kids on the other hand devour it so when she makes it, it lasts about a week.

Mmm I haven't made homemade granola for over a year...I need to get back into it, yours looks so amazing. Perfect find on the dish towel! Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog!!! I love that you used Glenn as middle names- that my friend is perfect!!! They can have a piece of their daddy when they take on their new married names...in a long, long, long time I might add.

    1. Granola is super easy. I just have all my oats nuts & coconut in a bowl and then eyeball the wet mixture (honey, coconut oil), funny it never turns out bad :D

    1. Actually the kids aren't granola fans so it lasts a while here. Sometimes I make Lila her own pan with no nuts, just oats, kids!?!

    1. Thanks MaryAnne, but granola takes no skill, I don't even use a recipe. I just throw oats, coconut and nuts into a bowl and then add in a mixture of honey mixed with coconut oil (you could use any oil) mix and bake for about 30-45 minutes at 300.

  9. Yum! My husband loves granola-he eats it every day. I am not crazy about it but it gets expensive buying it for him. Maybe I should try making it. And yes, that tea towel is killer.

    1. You should definitely try making it, so much cheaper and you don't have to skimp on the nuts or coconut. You'll be surprised how easy it is.

  10. Ok you must do a post of the rolling of the oats and its purpose of doing it yourself instead of buying them that way.

    I am completely intrigued :)

What an awesome gift from your grandmother and indeed keep the pictures even if they do turn out less then stellar !!!

    1. If you click on the link (handy dandy oat roller) you will be taken to a post where I posted a video of me actually rolling oats. The reason I grind my own grains fresh is to preserve the nutrients. Plus the taste is fantastic!
